After 2 or 3 months of this and that......we have decided that the old Civic is now so kerknackered its going to be sorned and used on the farm as a taxfree runabout and the Subaru forester has to go.

To replace them we feel that we want to go down the 1/2 way house...a small SUV/Crossover.

So its a petrol car for a start, small engine...1 or 1.2 TSi most likely. But a decent sized boot, slightly higher seating position maybe.

Around the £10-13k area ish.... say 3 4 years old ish....

Cars....Skoda Fabia Estate, Seat Arona, Citroen C3, Pug 308, Corsa........................ That sort of size....

Thoughts.....

…..are that most of those aren’t small SUV/Crossovers, perhaps only the Arona.

Depends what you want to use it for?

Maybe a Duster.

They have a bit of utilitarian cool about them and seem to be reasonable value.

Dacia...deffo no.
Sat in a Kona, was small....for us I guess I have to add.

Wife liked the Arona.
Maybe a Skoda fabia Estate...hatchback too small. But they look a bit ....bland?

Dont mind a Yeti tho, but yes its got that old persons image.

Thought about a 208, maybe. And a 2008.
Captur....meh.

Puma????

Have you tried the Captur?

We have just bought a 21 plate with 50k for £12k, and it’s a really nice car, great spec, automatic and the interior is great, led lights all round and every toy you’d need, I’d definitely recommend, it was in my opinion much better than the Kona, 2008, Arona and others we looked at.

They also have a 5 year warranty which a lot of the other makes don’t so it’s still covered for the next 16 months.

If boot size is important out of the cars the OP listed the Fabia estate has by far the biggest boot.

Neither of us as taken a good look at one....yet. Just seen them on the road and I think a long day In Plymouth trolling around the dealerships is coming up soon. We dropped by one in Ivybridge that had advertised a Fabia hatch, an estate and a Octavia,,,so dropped by but they kept the Octavia and estate off site....BUGGER...as we wanted to compare the 3. There were 2 Aronas there and they looked nice.

They have quite a cult following, well deserved too, they're great cars.

Well. 2 hrs in online searching write ups etc from Honest John as they have owner reviews as well.

Dont mind the look of the Seat Ateca. Smaller than our Forester but a bit bigger than the Arona/Puma......talking of which, in 3 comparisons, the Puma beats the C3 Aircross and the T roc. Areca comes out lever with the Karoq....which I also quite like.

Are you sure you want such a small engine?

If you liked your Forester you should look at a Subaru XV

Ateca and Karoq are the same, just different trims and suspensions. Karoq is softer, Ateca more 'sporty'!

Yes, the need for the pulling power of the Forester has gone, the absolute max we will now tow is under 500kg, closer to 250, and thats 3 times a month, so any of these cars will do that comfortably. We only did/do 1500 miles a year in the Forester if that and another 3k in the old civic, this "new" car is to replace both. The vast majority of our mileage is under 20 miles per trip, so a car that can do around 40 mpg a bonus, and hence a tdi is out. BUT a decent boot is needed for my wifes charity project.

For that mileage fuel consumption becomes irrelevant

5000 miles a year at combined 30 mpg vs 5000 miles a year at 40 mpg????

Plus tax and insurance over 5 years............
