MOT NO LONGER AN ASSURED SOURCE? CAMRY SALE.
Discussion
When looking at Cars for sale, I’ve always used MOT history as a guide to the cars condition. Recently looking at -what appeared to be - a very nice 3 litre Camry, I was reassured by a pretty clean MOT history, to buy the car. (Plus a good video)
But, while getting a knocking sound checked at my local garage.the mechanic emerged from under the car, saying ‘did you buy this from a garage? You know you can take it back within 30 days….it’s crusty’! Sure enough, it was rusty. How did it manage to avoid being mentioned on the MOT Check, as it wasn’t ‘mild’ corrosion? Certainly knocked my belief in MOT as a source of information. Who has the time -or money -to trail about looking at cars in detail, let alone get repeated AA checks on cars?
I can understand it being missed here, as the Camry was in lovely condition ‘above the waterline’, but chassis, springs, transmission……all rusty. Not a surprise in age, it was an S reg car, so expected. But…..missed by MOT? Why?
….and, yes, it’s back for sale…..buyer beware?
