Anyone got one of the above?
Is it sluggish getting away from junctions, also overtaking 30-50mph sort of range?
Is the seat/driving position noticeably higher than say a Golf?

Also I saw one yesterday with like slim running boards under the doors? What model has these normally does anyone know?

Trying to decide on next car and cant make me mind up : XC40, Tiguan, Ateca, T-Roc, X1. XC40 and X1 a bit out of my price range really.
£18,000 - £20,000 budget, cash purchase.
Sub 10 seconds 0-60
Panoramic roof would be nice.
High profile tyres, more kerb proof.

Cheers

Had one as a hire car recently for a couple of weeks and can honestly say it was the most boring, nannying, white goods of a machine I've ever driven.

Lifeless steering, lifeless brakes, just meh!. And don't get me started on the most horrendous Lane Keep Assist that needs to be turned off again every time you get in the car unless you want to be permanently fighting it.

They look nice though

It really is a car for people who don't like cars. The 500x I had previously was better in every way to the T-Roc. it really was that bad.

Had the same engine in an Arteon

Sluggish from junctions - yep, almost dangerous
Mid range grunt? None

It was so bad, my Wife refused to drive it.

I'd personally go with an XC40, they start at around £15k but obviously mileage and age dependant...

I prefer the Mini Countryman to the T-Roc and the Mini isn't my favourite...

Heavy car, though. I had that engine in a Golf 7.5 and it was brisk enough.

Have had various models of T-Roc as hire cars/service loan cars, all with the 150hp engine.

Wasn't much of an SUV at all, I had the same engine in a Golf and that had better traction. The T-Roc didn't have the x-diff electronic limited slip differential that my Golf did, so would just spin its front wheels when trying to nip into gaps.

Sluggish and big delays sadly. Also less soundproofing/etc. than my Golf - noisier and also less vibration damping.

XC40 is a much better car, and prices have dropped now. I've also spent a few days in various XC40's (T3 and T4) and they are much nicer and better to drive.

It's just a worse golf unless you have mobility issues and really need the extra little bit of height for entry/exit.

Yep - it was not a particularly quick car, although wasn't the slowest lump I've driven either. You could probably live with it but as others say, there are much quicker alternatives.

Noticeably higher than our 1 series - my wife gets quite bad car sickness in the passenger seat and she was absolutely fine in this as I chucked it around the hills of Tuscany.

Driven the SEAT / Cupra Formentor with the same engine. It was fine enough for motorway driving. Getting out of junctions etc is ok as long as you understand you're not in a small nippy car or a car with lots of power and adjust accordingly. Might not be the same for the T-Roc, but the only major complaint I had for the Formentor is the small fuel tank and relatively poor MPG for a little 1.5TSI. My old Scirocco 2.0 TSI probably would have gotten better MPG on the same run.

If you want an SUV and can do the EV thing Audi E-Trons are incredible value for money

Used prices are very high for small SUVs so sometimes worth going a size up for more car for very similar money.

I’d maybe suggest having a look at the Audi Q3 as well which is good value used.

We’ve had one for 3 years on lease, it goes back next week, it’s primarily for the mrs but I have drove it a fair bit myself, it’s a 1-5 tsi r line, we’ve done 28k miles & it’s been faultless, definitely not the most exciting thing you’ll ever drive, defo not for flying around & overtaking, it really lacks power for that & the mpg isn’t the greatest.

It’s been decent value for money, £290 a month on lease & 1 service.

DS7 Ultra Prestige, very good cars with enough go & kit that'll make long journeys a breeze:

DSG too?

If so, don't get how these apparently vary so much - wife has this drive train in a 22 Karoq and it takes a lot of thought to stop it spinning the front tyres when turning out of junctions. Accidentally put super-unleaded in it once and it became ludicrous in the wet.

Was talking to someone who has same engine / gearbox in VW T-Roc and unprompted he said the only thing he doesn't like is how it spins its front tyres so readily. Wife looked at T-Roc before getting Karoq and felt she was peering over the dashboard - she's 5'5" and it was as if the seat wouldn't go up enough.

Had a 2 litre diesel 4Motion DSG Tiguan before - the 1.5 petrol is same power but much less torque so it doesn't "feel" as powerful but peak torque is pretty low in the rev range and it's faster than the diesel on paper.

My old man is in a similar predicament and favouring the X2 so far. They look better value than the X1 in the current market. I’ve had a sit in the T-Roc and was shocked how plasticky it was - a step down from my old Golf mk7.5.

If budget allows I’d probably go for a nice XC40 example. Lexus UX and NX are probably my other faves. Toyota Rav4 is worth a look too, along with the Merc GLA (the latter was a little cramped inside though).
