I’ve only ever owned two cars and they have both been Corsa’s. I bought the first Corsa and it was economical to run and I just never had any major problems with it so when it gave up the ghost at about 130,000 miles, I bought another.

My second Corsa was just as economical - the only difference being changing the headlights meant taking the front off which was a pain I’ll admit and cost extra than just changing the bulbs but still, I am currently driving it around and it’s done 140,000 miles.

I was going to buy another corsa, when my garage said I should look at getting a Honda because I want a cheap to run and reliable car. But they are way more expensive than a Corsa (obviously) and I am wondering if it is worth it as I can only buy an older one.

Basically I have saved £10,000 to spend on a second hand car, I can only drive an auto. If I buy a Honda Jazz, I can get a 2017 plate but the mileage is about 70,000 plus or I can get mileage around 35,000 but I’m looking at a 2014 plate! If I buy a Vauxhall Corsa, I can get a 2021 plate with 55,000 or a 2019 plate with 40,000.

The bottom line is, is it really worth buying a much older Honda or a Honda with much greater mileage? I don’t care what the car looks like, I just want something reliable and cheap to run.

Your thoughts ?? Many thanks

I spent my first 10 years driving Vauxhalls as there was nothing wrong with the ones I'd had. I absolutely loved them and must have 10-15 different models in that time. I'd never have another one no matter how cheap now.

Try something Japanese if reliability is your priority. I do recall Jazz's being expensive as well as insurance though.

I don’t buy much into the Honda vs Vauxhall thing and always favour a newer car so I’d go the Corsa in this instance.

I’d just pick whichever of the two you prefer to drive.

An alternative option depending on your driving needs and living arrangements is a Nissan Leaf. If you have a driveway you probably won’t get cheaper motoring.

How many miles are you doing, and is there anything you'd like your current Corsa doesn't have?

Corsa, I believe the pre 2018 Jazz are easy to steal the catalytic converters from.

I’ve owned several Vauxhalls and liked them.

An average week about 200 miles. 3 times a week I go into work so 50 miles there and back and then 50 miles of ‘running around’. Don’t really drive around other than that. A couple of times a year I visit relatives, about 240 miles each way.

There is nothing I want that my current corsa doesn’t have. As long as it has a stereo I’m good to go 😂

Get the Corsa it's a good car, alternatively you'll also get a very well spec;d Astra for similar money:

Depends how old you are.

If you're 18 get the Corsa.

If you're 80 get the Jazz.

Seriously though, other cars are available for 10k. I'd be exploring the possibilities. That said, I had two Corsas a few years ago. They were absolutely fine. I think I'd rather drive one than a Jazz personally.

I keep an eye on a Jazz forum as until recently we had 2 mk2 Jazzes in the family (one blew its head gasket a few mths so was witten off). On the forum, even the old people don't like the later Jazzes.

There used to be loads of them around us and we had two very good dealers nearby. Honda stupidly canned them and I hardly see a Jazz now.

The Jazz, it’s not even a contest

The current shape Corsa is a cramped car with poor interior space, compare that to the current or any of the previous Jazz which have huge interior space in comparison.

If you can get a 2017 onwards facelift Jazz, that would be the one to go for.

Your problem is small car automatics are hard to get and in demand, as such they hold their value and the likes of a Honda Jazz auto your going to pay a premium.

Cinch have some 67 plate jazz autos that fall within your budget.
I wouldn’t be to concerned with 80,000 miles on a Honda, it’s all about condition.
If you buy one via a Honda dealer you will get a very good 1 year Honda used warranty.

Yes, I had a mk4 latest Jazz hybrid and it was awful build quality with dealers disappearing too.

I’d bought it from what used to be one of the largest Honda dealers in the UK, who now sell MG as well as the Honda part of their business is much reduced.

You want to come down to where I live on the South Coast, almost every other car is a Honda Jazz, although admittedly they are all retirees... my neighbour has just bought his wife a brand new Jazz as his Ioniq5 is too big...
Just don't buy a red Jazz as almost everyone I see is now pink...

Actually my garage told me this aswell which is kind of funny because I can’t really afford anything 2018 + if it’s a Jazz…
