We had a Sportage till it got written off. Test driven a few since (order of preference below)

Porsche Macan - loved this
LandRover Evoque Hybrid - good but idiotic short range on battery and bus handling
Kia Hybrid Sportage - loved it but the wife doesn't like Kias now!
Audi Q4 Etron - Horrible interior like a kid bus. Shocked how much they want for such a dull standard Audi with Epower.
Jaguar Ipace - The most dull car ever, but rocket ship fast.

In an ideal world i would buy a new Macan but out of my budget. Then i may consider a second hand Land Rover Evoque or even a Disco Sport but again fear im going to end up with a dog of a car.

Happy to put down about 3k-5k deposit and a 350 monthly payment or so, any ideas what i should look at 2nd hand??

I like the exterior looks of the current (2022 onwards) Hyundai Tucson, but many won't.

The interior is dull though.

And might be too similar to the Sportage.

They've just facelifted it and I'm really not a fan. We just got rid of our 2021 Tucson (first year of the 'new' Tucson). We had the 230PS in Ultimate spec and it was thge best family vehicle we'd ever had. We're heavy motorway users and do >20k/year in it, with a lifetime average of 42.3mpg when we returned it with just under 60k on the clock. We've ended up replacing it with an AWD EV6 in GTS spec, which is 95% as good as the Tucson, however the fuel savings when we have solar made it a no-brainer move for us.

RAV4 of whatever your choosing. Won't ever go wrong, looks decent enough.

If you like how the Macan drove you should try the Alfa Stelvio.

For comfort, quality and a bit of Scandi flair try the Volvo XC60 (or XC40 for a bit more fun).

New Tesla Model Y SR available £400 per month with around £4K down on personal lease. Very good car.

Second the RAV4.

If you want big luxury, new shape Touareg's now falling into budget.

Porsche Taycan ST/CT? Some amazing used options out there. Not an SUV but we have a roof box and it’s way bigger than my previous Stelvio and the Mecan I had as a loan car a few months ago.

Just seen your budget you’ll probably be struggling for 5k down and £350 a month.

They are serious good value now though - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2024050995...

As someone else said the Stelvio’s a decent shout but mimosa if you’ll get one under budget. Here’s my old one

Def look at the Hyundai, they surprised us a lot. Ioniq 5 deals about (ow were) but in the end for us the boot wasn’t quite big enough. Tuscan also good. New Santa Fe coming means should be something on existing which are good if you like interior buttons!

We also rued out JLR products as I know too many people who’ve had issues annd didn’t want to take the risk. We ended up in an X3 as that’s what my wife liked best.
