Hello, Ive read through loads of similar threads but can't find an answer to my specific question.

I recently sold my van to guy who wanted the V5 completed using the Motor trade section, he gave me his business address & his personal address requesting the full V5 when it arrives (had to order a duplicate because lost the other) be sent to his personal address but the V5 put under his trading address.
His trading address doesn't exist, neither does his business AMR cars Unit 5 Back bowling lane Bradford, BD4 8SA - nothing.

this didnt initially bother me, why would i care, im no longer the registered keeper, technically no one will be if this business doesn't exist right?

But If, as he is requesting i send him the full V5, which clearly has my name and address on it, what stops him from just registering the vehicle in my name again (as he has all the info to do this) and then i get all the Tax reminders, speeding and parking fines?.. How is this not possible? And if it possible, WTF is this system?

At the very least im not particularly happy about a stranger having my old car and my name and address + a valid V5 for this vehicle.

Could someone in the trade or with knowledge of this provide some info, id be really grateful,

Cheers!

Just go online and do the change of ownership with the details he gave you and when the V5 arrives either send it back to DVLA with a covering note or lose it again.

Can I just black out my name and address on the V5? It is after all still my document? Then I dont really care as the 'trader' can't do anything with regards to my identity

You are clearly over thinking this.

All you need to do is transfer the car to trade. You do this online when it asks how you sold the car, just put sold to a trader. The car is then out of your name.

If you are worried forward the V5 to him with your name and address redacted.

If your worst fear happend, which is very unlikely and he registered the car to you again you would receive another V5 but then anyone could register any car to you

This is very true, I would receive the V5. This why I am asking to be honest because i need the insight of others.

How do you redact the info on the V5, do i have to get another V5 sent to me? Does the DVLA accept sending a new log book with no address or name mentioned on it..

When the V5 arrives transfer it to trade online using the address he gave you. There is an option to get a copy of the notification emailed to you, do this and the car is no longer your issue.

When you send the V5, redact it by using black pen over your name, street address and postcode and send it to him.

Traders do this thousands of times a day
