amy thoughts on these 2, up to now ive just been looking at macans and honestly id never even heard of the Levante!

but looking at them they looks quite nice but offer more space than the Macan in the rear.

my instant thought was a maserati = fiat/alfa = terrible build and reliability.

but is that the case?

has anyone actually owned one as there arnt that many for sale 37 vs 152 macans at the same price range

any thought sand opinions greatly received

Hard to give real advice. What year of car are you looking at? Both have had revisions; the Macan many.

Petrol vs Diesel is also quite a big difference.

Overall though, the Levante feels pretty dated. It is more like a Cayenne rival in size I would argue. I think in petrol guise with a nicer exterior/interior colour combination they are a good looking car, and at the right money they make sense. But the Porsche is a better car, in almost every way.

The Levante is the size of a Cayenne, so a class bigger than the Macan.

So I guess the question would be, why not Cayenne if you want a bigger car, unless you're looking on a budget + age criteria?

just watched harrys review of the maserati and i think teh size of the pedal box would be an issue anyway

honestly id never even heard of them until this afternoon and another video of the macan had mentioned it and i thought id give it a look, they are cheaper than a macan

and if its cayenne size then the mrs wouldnt want one anyway as too big

Different size classes for starters, but the Porsche will be a far more resolved product. The Levante received pretty scathing reviews when it debuted as it just wasn’t any near good enough. Especially for what they were charging for it.

I think though, contrary to expectations, they’re reasonably reliable and not especially expensive to look after given their extensive Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep parts bin crossover.

The Grecale is the Macan rival and an expensive one at that.

I'd have the Maserati over the Porsche every day of the week.

This, The Macan is beige,Levante is Technicolor and will always be a sense of occasion…

Forget the reliability nonsense it’s not the 70’/80’s anymore.

Alfa Stelvio is a great value alternative to the Macan and worth a look if you fancy something Italian.

If 280 bhp isn't enough, there is the 503 bhp version.

The petrol is the way to go for a Levante, in the right trim and colour it beats a Macan hands down.

I was exactly in the same place 2 years ago and had test driven the Levante Petrol extensively as my mate had one. Nice exhaust and a nice drive but an overall muted driving experience. It felt luxurious inside although the touch screen interface was dated. I then test drove the Macan S and boy I closed the deal immediately after the test drive. The driving experience is amazing and you enjoy driving the car. I still smile everyday when the exhaust roars for a few seconds when the Macan starts! I assume you are buying petrol as both the diesels don’t offer the same experience.
Good luck!

I'm undecided on petrol or diesel head say diesel heart says petrol as like you as soon as I started a petrol one I was "ooh" even without the pse

I think diesel will win out as 22mpg just may prove a bit wearing

Someone around the corner from my parents has a Levante. They always park it nose-in on the driveway. If it didn't say 'MASERATI' in big letters on the back you'd not give it a second look and think it was a Kia Sportage or something.

Interestingly, someone across the street from them has a newish Macan in the crayon grey colour and that looks much nicer (and makes a nice noise - I haven't ever seen the Maser moving so can't judge).

I saw a recent review of the diesel version of the Maserati Ghibli which had a load of fake external engine noises which sounded terrible, I wonder if the diesel Levante does the same?

22 would need quite a lot of long journeys on the petrol, that’s more Ghibli MPG and usually an SUV is a 20% penalty, also all RHD Ghibli are RED only so less drag.

I’d test drive the diesel, I did and didn’t like it.

Mine does 20-22 in town and about 29 on the motorway. Honestly don’t get the diesel, if you really want to enjoy the experience get the petrol. My mate used to have a diesel Levante before he switched to petrol and I can tell you from personal experience that there was a world of difference in how they drove. Nothing wrong with a diesel if you want economy however if that’s what your main aim is then neither the Macan or Levante are appropriate.

Also keep in mind that the Levante depreciates faster than a Macan. Going away from a Levante, the Ghibli in particular has really depreciated hard and I would recommend you test drive that if you really want a diesel. It’s lighter and you might have a better driving experience.

If I can get more towards the 29 it would be ok but I bought a ls430 many years ago with people saying oh yeah they can do 30mpg I got to see that once I then averaged about 20 but was doing 60 miles a day but fuel was much much cheaper then!

The Levante is a single turbo I think, Harry’s garage did a video on it, I binned the idea because of that.

I went for a new X5 in the end. Great car
