£20-£25k, toy car, must be an “event”
Discussion
Considering moving the Caterham on as due to lack of basic security (ie you can’t lock it), I’m not getting the use out of I’d like to…..
There’s a few things caught my eye….
Cayman s- relatively free of borkage potential?
Elise - have driven a few but not an event
TVR - well, why not ? chimp or Tamora ?
MX5- meh, just not a car I’d look back at , despite the two
S2000 - good ones are pricey now, but prob to old really
What would you suggest ?

I'd say try an Evora but it does mean you'll have to stretch the budget & haggle:

370Z Nismo, these are overlooked but they're every bit a drivers car & special:

Maser - borkage potential to high and not my style
Nissan Z - have a soft spot for them, but the image isn’t quite me
F type—— hmmm, I love the looks , BUT JLR reliability? That does tick a lot of boxes
I’d be tempted with a minty DC2, but they seem a little old now …..
Not a fan of heavy or numb cars either ….

What counts as an 'event' for you? Special engine? Rarity?
There are loads of cars in your budget that are fantastic to drive but few that could really be regarded as exotic.
Example - Caterham - put race boots on, collect steering wheel from home office, spend 10 minutes strapping in…. Get waved at and smiled at by all road users There are loads of cars in your budget that are fantastic to drive but few that could really be regarded as exotic.
The 25k is a guide price?
But a manual converted V10 bmw

The F Types are proving very robust & reliable the V6 is a peach & at your price point this is a great pick vs a leggy V8,Maser - borkage potential to high and not my style

Ok….
Boxster- not anti, but the looks don’t quite work for me
An event , it’s hard to describe.
Given to road conditions and general lack of driving standards, the Caterham doesn’t seem to fit my requirement anymore - safety, security and ride quality all now being a higher priority than previous.
It’s very hard to define what makes you look back at the car you have just parked.
If it was a screamer, then DC2 or even a Clip cup maybe, but I think I want a touch more civility.
Chimp fits the brief in many many ways, but still makes me nervous.
I give a car 2 chances before it’s sold, and I don’t want to particularly lose the capital if I can help it.

Of your original suggestions a Cayman S would be my choice, preferably with the sports exhaust for added drama, and it's a real sports car for someone coming from a Caterham unlike some of the suggestions which are more GTs
Having some experience of middle aged Boxsters/Caymans you would be after a 987 gen 2 (2010 onwards) which should be within budget and much less likely to have serious engine trouble than the gen 1. Or even the newer 981 but that would probably be a 2.7 with a few miles to stay under £25k.
