Best small crossover to replace an ageing Nissan Note
Discussion
Exciting stuff, right!
My Mother has an ageing Nissan Note that has got to the stage something needs fixed every month, it's time for a replacement.
- £10000-£13000 budget
- Petrol
- Preferably manual
- 5 Doors
- Slightly raised seating position
- Safe, will carry a couple of grandkids around most days
- Boot no smaller than a 2010 Nissan Note which is a surprising 400L+ and rules out a lot of small cars
- Preferably 3/4 years old max and low miles e.g. 20/25k max as we want this to do her the remainder of her driving days
Is there a better choice than a 1.0 TCE90 petrol Renault Captur in 'Iconic' trim? That's my shortlist so far....
We've never had a French car in the family but it seems to tick all boxes, but is there a better option in terms of reliability, safety, space or spec?

The Captur's Romanian cousin, the Dacia Sandero Stepway (or the Logan Stepway), is a notable model.
Indeed it is, however the boot is too small - quite a bit smaller than others in the segment. Would need to move up to the Duster I think and it's quite a bit bigger - perhaps a little too big, and wonder if it's too heavy for that same 1.0 TCE engine to pull around? Also, are they actually reliable/durable over the long term, or are they cheap and cheerful for a few years before becoming cheap and miserable I have to deal with all motoring-related problems so from a selfish point of view want it to be as trouble-free as possible.
