End of lease BCA failed to collect
Discussion
Hi,
I've got a Mercedes eVito on lease, it was due to be collected on 10/05/24. No one arrived (apparently the truck broke down).
After some advice on who is responsible for the van now. I'm guessing it's going to be sat out on the street for a while...
This is all the lease agreement says
Do I need to insure it?
Should I transfer the V5 to Merc?
They have shafted me before on a return (imaginary damages). My thinking is if they find any damage (there's none) on this one I'll just say it happened after 10/05/2024 so not my problem.
Anyone had similar?

Take photos and I'd leave it at that. Not your problem.
Yeah, I've done that. So have BCA. Someone arrived, took photos and left, he said the truck would be here "after lunch" to collect. I waited until 4 then phoned them, they said they would be here on Monday (today). I have my doubts.

If you’ve signed all of the handover paperwork, it’s no longer yours?I waited until 4 then phoned them, they said they would be here on Monday (today). I have my doubts.
Did you do V5 transfer online?

I've not signed anything.Did you do V5 transfer online?
The guy arrived, took photos and left. He has emailed me a report which says the vehicle was clean inside and out, the V5 is present and both keys are there. Also noted that it was sunny.
I haven't transferred the v5 yet but I'm considering it.
Similar happened to me, I called the finance company (VWFS in my case) and they told me I was no longer responsible for the car, and they would insure it. I left it on the road and a few days later someone came to collect. One difference is when I leased I never had a copy of the V5.
If I were you I'd call the finance company to check.

It is still today for another 11 hours.
Perhaps premature to be transferring V5s at this point in time?

They've only got until 4:30 - that's what time we close (I live about 10 miles away). I'm willing to be reasonable on that though - despite knowing that they won't return the favour.
I think the law of bailment would still apply, therefore insure it take care of it, and potentially claim money back.

I'd have just assumed that providing the V5 (i.e. an official document of which there is only a single copy available) is unnecessary risk / admin to hand out to someone who is 'renting the car' and expect to be given back, when it could just be held centrally....?
