Hi all.

Considering a Lexus LC 500.

There's one on at Chichester which looks OK - but it's an import from Jersey. Auto trader also reporting outstanding finance but I'm assuming that can be resolved before any sale.

Is there any possible issue with a Jersey import? Or anything I should consider that will affect the resale price further down the line?

Appreciate any views or experience here. Thx.

Correct side and it's a Lexus so should be made from granite. More a Question if there's any effect on value or if it's a known dodgy route for ringers?

If it’s been driven in the UK or elsewhere I would not worry, but if it has low mileage and is used on the island there may be issues. Serviced by Lexus back here?

Says full lexus service history - and there is a Jersey dealer so let's assume that's the one. You have a good point. The car has low miles but that may be an issue.

Trouble I have is I'm in East Anglia. Bloody miles down to Chichester.

This is not a definitive answer by any means. But I have never had any dealings with a car from Jersey where there wasn't something afoot. Be that a VAT fiddle, ex-hire car, clocked... something.

The most amusing of which was a Porsche 930 which had clearly been to the moon and back. The sear belts were fluffy from extensive use, with about 20k on the clock. The seller said "yeh, well Jersey is a small island, so people get in and out of their cars more".

Ha! Yep. This was my concern. This particular car has been on for a while,so thinking there are other factors at play? Suspicious minds?!

" looks OK"

If you are buying a car like an LC500 at the price which I assume you are spending, looking "OK" is simply not good enough in my books.

Be patient and wait for the "Looks like a beautiful amazing example that has been clearly loved with a traceable history on the UK mainland which the dealership has known since new and tells you that Mr X, the previous owner was a very loyal owner that always trades up" and hasn't crossed the sea.

Tell me I am wrong?

Jerseys not exactly somewhere you’d rack up big mileage.

I seem to remember that 930 was being sold by a Chichester dealer.

My sister-in-law lives on Jersey & has a 2013 Skoda Rapid diesel that has a milage of less than 25k miles. Amazingly no DPF problems. I am staggered that diesels are even sold on Jersey. In 2013 an official VW document recommended that diesels should not be sold on small islands. My s-in-l lives near the centre of the island & can't drive more than 7 miles without driving into the sea. Has no problems with rust.

Her previous car, s Sierra estate, was destroyed by rust.

No idea on the Jersey thing but I live in Chichester and that place has been there for years and has a good reputation.

I owned a Citroen C4 from Jersey.

It was cheap to buy but when I traded it in the dealer called out the fact it was an import and reduced the trade in accordingly.

Having done a bit of driving in Jersey I would carefully check panel/underside damage and any repairs. Also aforementioned frequent short trips and whether the car you are looking at has any known problems with being used in that way.
