what car 23k ish
Discussion
Wanting rid of our s213 e class for something different don't want to spend much extra.
I don't need anything as big really so any body style will do but comfortable would be nice, android auto fitted or easy to add.
Really looking at petrol powered as been struck with adblue failure before and want to avoid that.
Something rattle free ie well screwed together something the Merc was not in any way shape or form
I'd kinda thought of a stinger GT or maybe an arteon but really need to think of other ideas
So what do you think. If it could retain as much as possible in 12-24months that would be great!

When considering both the stinger GT and the arteon, I ended up in a 435i gran coupe. Arteon was the most practical but only 4 cylinder, the stinger massively well equipped, but let down by running costs in terms of servicing and efficiency.
That said anything of that type and age will depreciate. I would estimate 10-20% depreciation a year depending on the mileage you put on. Go older and fancier and you will be further down the depreciation curve but with a increased borkage potential.

Nice ideas, but it doesn't have to be big as long as it can fit a couple of large cases in it. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404279...

The depreciation is a funny one as the mercs lost 30% in the 40 months or so and that's fine I mean there the was the point it had gone up about 15% That said anything of that type and age will depreciate. 20% id like to avoid that's £8280 in 2 years that's a decent chunk

Really you can't buy a car for less than 23k that's less than 10 years old that has android auto, petrol and doesn't rattle?
I mean the Merc was only about 26k 3 years ago granted it's diesel and rattles but hey ho
I changed from three E Class diesels to a petrol 2015 528i BMW as I did not want the hassle of adblue and NOX sensors with the later Mercs.I mean the Merc was only about 26k 3 years ago granted it's diesel and rattles but hey ho
The BMW is a lovely car, well put together, no rattles, very reliable, comfortable, drives well, mid 30's mpg that is mainly now short runs.
Apparently the G30 is even better and easily attainable for 23k or less with a good selection of petrol, hybrids and diesel to choose from.
Having been a Merc fan for 20 years or so I will never buy another one, the BMW is a better car all round for my purposes.

I would expect a more normal depreciation curve from now on, particularly if selling back to the trade.
The other option is leasing. The deals seem to be coming back but you have to be more flexible on car. It's what I'm considering as I've found it a fairly cost effective way of motoring with predictable costs. You just have to be patient and jump on deals when they appear.
leasing is an option just need to make sure that monthlies work out less than the possible depreciation
and yes was end of first lockdown pre spike at one point id gained as as i say 15% ish and that was after about a year of use its not normalized but was offered 18k a month ago partex

yeah the adblue only went a few months ago and that was a 2k fix. honestly ever since ive had it, its been a rattly lump and every w/s213 ive tried has been i fixed alot of them early on but they have come back now, its also due gearbox service this year i think and likely 4 tyres then there are the possible electrical issues with the new ones
I loved all my pre adblue E Classes, did big miles, ie 300k plus, in all of them with no issues and Mercs servicing and customer service back then was excellent. Then it all changed around 2013/2014 and they seem to have lost the plot as far as reliability and customer service is concerned.
They also no longer appeal to me visually, but I am getting old and they obviously are after the younger buyers nowadays
A Mercedes is no longer special.
