Audi A6 C7 Avant vs Allroad? 3.0 TDI

So my wife has just retired our A6 C6 Allroad, and we are now looking to get a replacement. Given budget (8-12k) looking at the A6 C7, it would have to be in a 240+ version of the 3.0tdi, I think realistically the 3.0BiTDi is just out of our price range for a decent one.

The big question is whether to go for an Allroad or just the normal Avant. Our previous Allroad did throw up a few air suspension issues which I'd just shelled a bit out on (before it was written off). So given the main reason for quattro is for snow around the North York Moors and trips to the Alps, is the air suspension hassle of the Allroad worth it?

Has anyone had both and able to comment on the ride?

Anyone had the Allroad and able to comment on the reliability of the air suspension?

For a car of that age the less complexities the better. I personally don’t like the styling of the AllRoad, and I generally really like Audi styling.

Quattro won’t help much on snow. Get some all season tyres instead that will help on snow and these will also meet European winter tyre requirements (three peaks mark) when you’re in the Alps.

I had a 2017/67 A6 Avant 272 TDI Black Edition followed by a 2015/65 Allroad 272 TDI. I sold the former to Cazoo in the morning then picked up the Allroad in the afternoon.

The difference in the Allroad suspension was very noticeable compared to the Avant, very soft and wafty, to use technical terms!

We always fit a set of winter tyres too. The last A6 C6 Allroad with winters was amazing in the snow.

I think a Venn diagram of "likes to drive fast" and "likes to ski fast" would have a fair amount of overlap.

The Avant was great, no problems at all, I really miss that car; I sold it when moving out of London.

The Allroad was two years older and had 90k more miles. It did have squeaking from the rear when on higher/highest settings so I did have that fixed with new parts and thereafter was fine. I got rid as it developed a leak in the fuel line so it was replaced with a Kodiaq last summer.

It is noisier, and does sound laboured if you floor it to overtake, for example, but it gets up to speed, no problem. The Allroad and Avant were V6s so as you can imagine, more effortless driving!

Not sure how typical, but was fixed gratis by the AA at the house. I didn't want any other interruptions to daily life hence why I replaced it with the Skoda (although just after six months' ownership that was off the road for two months due mechatronic unit going!)
