What cheap coupe?
Discussion
Idly asking for recommendations. A second car would be handy, I'd rather have something slightly interesting/fun which probably means 2 doors (and 2 seats), maybe potential to drop the roof. Sporty pretensions desireable, high performance not necessary. Budget - lets say up to 5k (including any precautionary spend on something I can get for less than that)...
Renault Wind catches my eye a bit.
Also MGTF
Would rather it didn't rot away quickly, so feeling a bit put off MX5s (should I be?).
Never had a cabriolet before, as it'll live outside all the time I am not feeling a full on rag top.
Sorry, just don't like the new MINI so not after one of those...
Happy to take any ideas/savaging of my suggestions...

I've had:
MG TF 160 - Most fun
Smart Roadster - Quirky. And very leaky.
MK3 MR2 - Best steer
Z4 3.0 - Best noise/overall car
Hyundai Coupe S3 - No
All were <£5k and my only car so were used daily and I enjoyed each in their own way. All IMHO of course.

TT roadster or SLK for me. Although recently I have been looking at Renault Winds thinking it's actually quite a decent little package, despite the piss taken out of them when they were new.
TT's SLK's are quite cheap and relatively plentiful so you should be able to find one in good nick if you shop around.
Neither will set the world on fire dynamically, but having had both, they're both very enjoyable, and on a nice day having the roof down is the main benefit for me.
If you can find a clean early 986 Boxster 2.5 or 2.7 that would also be very good!
No problem with a soft top living outside all the time unless you're going to leave them parked for months on end, just make sure one you buy has the roof in good nick, and give it a nice treatment of waterproofer.

Thanks all for the suggestions despite me mangling the nomenclature, good food for thought. And thanks to whoever shifted this to the more appropriate section…
Im just busy googling the word nomenclature, cheers I'll try and fit that into one of my conversations if i can remember it 👍johnpsanderson said:

CLK 500, they're great coupes & sensible to run/maintain:Renault Wind catches my eye a bit.

Or you'll get a very nice E350cgi Coupe in budget, open the roof/drop all the windows away & you pretty much have convertible levels of light

E92 or E93 (convertible), we have one as the second car in 30d format, although not the most desirable for a convertible the 3.0d in a BMW sounds half acceptable.
A diesel Convertible wouldn't be my usual go to, however I test drove an E93 330d years ago and I did really like it. I only missed out on it because someone bought while I considering whether to go for it or not. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
