Discussion
I've taken everyones advice and widened the net in terms of cars ( sub £3500 budget, petrol, 4k miles a year, estate/suv or mpv) but also stuck to local ( within 40 miles ) and came up with this list once I checked the MOT's etc
Thoughts in terms of reliability, maintenance etc
2006 Ford C-max 2.0 C-MAX
2008 Renault Kangoo 1.6 16v auto
2013 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Astra SRI
2007 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Auto
2010 KIA Carens 1.6 GS MPV
2009 KIA Ceed 1.6 2 SW
2009 Peugeot 308 SW 1.6 VTi
2013 Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 16V
2008 Toyota Avensis 1.8 VVT-i

Avensis, cmax or focus. Check the fords very thoroughly for rust and if clear then get one of those. The Avensis is a bit meh but reliable. Thoughts in terms of reliability, maintenance etc

The two fords are nice to drive but get the max unless you want the auto. Parts are dirt cheap and they get broken for parts often so everything in great supply.
I note you've listed a number of autos. As this age I'd want to understand the reputation of the box fitted and that it had been serviced in line with recommendations as otherwise there's a higher risk of a big bill. Unless you need an auto, then I'd be inclined to stick with a simpler manual.
Edited to add: I suspect the Peugeot has the PRINCE engine, which should probably be avoided.
