Freelander 2???
Discussion
I need of a new car for the missus and for the dogs. Never had an suv and whilst I’d like a newer car budget can probably only stretch to around 5k
Would a c. 2010 freelander 2 be a good buy or a money pit?! Likely to be around 100k miles at that price / age.
Like the idea of an old Range Rover but hoping the freelander is a more affordable option.

If you're looking at 14yr old cars under £5k, then you can probably guarantee the Range Rover would be the more expensive option!Whilst the FL2 is known for being reliable in LR terms, I'd think the best petrol engined Rav4 you can find for £5k would be a much better choice of SUV if you want reliability.
I had a Freelander 2 from brand new for 2 years - it had already had more than it's share of niggles and issues by the time I part-exed it, nothing major, but certainly did nothing to dispel the tales of woe of LR build quality.

They're pretty robust, watch for rust but they're a good pick at 5k.
Another good option is the Ford Kuga:

I loved mine, him indoors was a bit dubious when I bought it, but it never let me down. In the end it was too big for what I needed really and I sold it, but with hindsight should have probably kept it as a workhorse.Would a c. 2010 freelander 2 be a good buy or a money pit?! I had a 11 plate GS, spec was nice, sat nav useless. In your budget you're probably looking at having the Haldex serviced as well as it will be due, if you can drop on one thats been done it will save you a few hundred.
That era Freelys were pretty well made. The only other thing I'd say is try not to buy one thats been near the coast as a lot of them are used for launching and the salt causes corrosion.
Join the freelander 2 Facebook group, usually a few good ones for sale on there too.
