Is the Golf 8.5 "fixed" ?
Discussion
I'm genuinely keen to order one of the new Golfs. Manual, petrol, with the updated ICE and buttons.
My understanding from the precious little online that's clear and easy to read, is that
- the ICE, which was dreadful and difficult to use in the old, is now upgraded
- the weird haptic touchpads on the steering wheel have been replaced with 'real' buttons
- the HVAC controls underneath the screen, which weren't backlit (making for nightmare adjustments in the dark on the move) are still touchpads, but now backlit.
The question I have is,
Has anyone seen a Golf 8.5? Or seen a review of one? Is it "fixed" so to speak in terms of user experience?
I'm the sort that would buy it and keep for 10 years, I'm genuinely in the mentality that I want a last-of-the-ICEboxes, that I can just spec up to a ridiculous level and then keep and forget.
Thanks in advance

My view would be to leave it at least a year, so the cars are out in the wild in reasonable numbers, and actual problems get reported by actual people. I'd not be particularly trusting of reviews, it took paying customers to shout about what a mess the early ones were.
For me the question wouldn't be "are the problems fixed", it would be "is it better than a late Mk7"?

While I'm here, I wonder if anyone knows when the ID3 is 'fixed' with the HVAC controls and haptic buttons as well?
I don’t think so, I would have thought it would be the easiest thing just to switch wheels on the production line - but I’d heard it will be 2 years before we get real buttons back on some cars. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
