Hi I need some expert advice on this potential car that I might buy. As I lack the knowledge max I would like to humbly ask my fellow forum enthusiasts to comment whether I should get this car or avoid at all cost. Thank you for you time and advice.
Edit: sorry for missing the link, since it hasn’t been long since I joined so I couldn’t add the link.
The car details:
BMW 1 series (2009) coupe auto 2drs
2.0 120d M Sport Steptronic euro 5
Mileage:139k miles
The seller has mentioned that the “EML” light is on
The car starts and drives

I definitely wouldn't buy it.

Edit: Actually, I probably would. What does that bloke down the pub think?

I would never buy a car with the EML light on.

If it was a simple or cheap fix, the owner would be crazy not to get it fixed themselves in order to get a better price for the car.

Isn't that the engine which suffers from stretching timing chains?

How much is it for sale for?
Do an MOT history check initially.
How much service history?
Tell him you're only interested if EML is sorted as it would be an MOT fail

But be clear that by sorted you mean "diagnosed and fixed", not "unplug the battery for ten minutes and cross your fingers"

120D and EML on you say? Take your pick from blocked DPF, blocked EGR, blocked injectors, or all 3 ! Or might just be a £20 ABS sensor. I know where my money would go if I was to bet.

Based on the extensive information provided, I would recommend not buying it, unless you really wanted to buy it.

I'd go

Chicken and chorizo sandwich
Walkers thai sweet chilli sensations
Fanta fruit twist

Don't forget to use your clubcard for an extra 50p off.

The smart money would be to go for the salmon and tuna sushi. You’re basically getting the drink and crisp for 40p.

Hmm, OK but first you need to decide if you are a vegetarian - I would get expert advice.
