Partner needs a new car as her current corsa has been run into the ground!

Up to £10k with a boot that fits a golden retriever (something with a detachable parcel shelf).

She’s not bothered about badges or having the fanciest motor on the block, just something that does the job. Have been looking at Fiesta’s, but any other ideas?

I’d go to a few local garages and look at some small to medium cars in the 10k price area.

You can pick up an early new Dacia Sandero for that budget. New shape Sandero is a great little hatchback. You can go older with a more prestigious badge, but if she's not bothered by things like that she wouldn't be gaining much.

You can also pick up a 2/3 year old Fiat Tipo, not exciting but cheap and reliable.

Mini Clubman of some trim / engine to match your £10k budget

Golden retrievers are fairly large so I’d say something with a bigger boot than a fiesta. For example a Skoda Octavia has a nice big boot and you could get a ~2018/2019 model with under 50k miles and carplay etc. for under £10k

I'd be surprised if you find a car dealer that'll take a dog in part exchange, even with £10k cash on offer. rofl

Does it have to be a small hatchback? 10k will put you in a Honda Civic tourer - which has a cavernous boot but the car itself does not have a massive foot print on the road.

We were in a similar position and bought a six month old Skoda Scala back in early 2020. It has been a fantastic car, drives really well with the 1.0 Tsi and there is loads of room in it. You should be able to pick up an early car for £10k.

Fabia Estate would probably do fine. Look at estates rather than SUVs as the dog's joints will thank you for it.

Cam here to post this.

That one on autotrader is pretty much identical to mine, same colour and spec. Had mine for 5 years, 100% reliable and supremely practical. You really have to see the interior to appreciate how practical it is compared to its road footprint.

Brilliant cars, and a tragedy they've been deleted by the manufacturer in favour of crossovers and SUVs.

I had the same criteria, ended up in an Audi Q5. My wife has done far more mileage than expected if I am honest but the car has been rock solid.

Make sure is 13 plate or newer as the infotainment is a bit better form 13 on.

Out of interest, do you know if these Mondeos are TC auto or automated manual/dual clutch?
