Hi all,

Its been a while since I last came on here but, assuming it is still the font of auto knowledge (and host to the longest raging climatebrawl in history), I wondered what the consensus might be.

The choices seem to be

Volvo XC90
LR Discovery
RR Sport
Q7
X5

X5 and RR Sport might be a bit small for my purposes though but I'd value opinions on reliability, running costs, performance (it's not a sports car and that's OK), and all round day to day living with one.

Thanks in advance.

Kia Sorrento

Dull, but devastatingly effective. Should have a reasonable amount of the 7 year warranty left too

would you consider a MPV
Nah. As sensible an option as they are, I fancy a bit of bling after traipsing round in an ancient XC90 for the last 10 years.

I partly replaced the Volvo with an E350 Estate but I absolutely hate it and want to be able to see over hedges again.

Not a bad option, do they drop into the £20k bracket?

We used to have a Discovery 4, which was a great do anything car and has 2 proper full size seats in the boot.
We explored a number of options when we needed to get 3 car seats / booster seats in a car and it was one of the only ones to tick the boxes.

I'd go for as late as possible, the later ones are also ULEZ compliant, if that's a need.

We currently have an XC60, as the kids are now all out of seats, my wife is keen on a Q7 but as much as I am an Audi fan the Q7 just seems too big and has a bit of the wrong image....

Dacia Jogger. Get warranty extended to 5 years, cheap running costs, rear seats can actually accommodate adults, and you can park it and not worry about it being there when you return. Plus it looks nicer than an x5 (not difficult tbf) and you can drive it on the limit and not lose your licence.

Only half joking.

Those Q7s do look tempting - are they as cavernous inside as the old Q7s?
I cant get on with Mercs, I've tried to, but my E350 is just so boring and really quite fragile.
They're spacious but you know what you need in terms of space, so I'd suggest taking a look at one just to be sure.
