Hi

Been doing some research about CAT S but looking at this Mazda and thinking of taking the risk and was hoping for some advice.

Don't really plan on selling it ever as I just run my cars into the ground.

MAZDA 3 2.0 SE NAV 44K

£4995

44,000 miles from new, has had first 3 services at Mazda main dealer and the 4th service just done by local independent garage.

Two owners.

One minor on last MOT. Had 3 mots since the damage.

Comes with mot until November 2024

Still being used daily.

Just kind thinking if they have used it for 3 years it's probably going be ok?

Seems I can't post links for 14 days or would send over some pictures.

It’s a good sign that it’s had a number of MOT tests and been used regularly since the incident.

If you haven’t already, it’s worth spending a few quid on a V-Check or similar which should get you pictures of the car in its damaged state. Then you’ll know which area to focus on when inspecting the car.

CAT S - structural damage

Can you not find a decent Cat N ?

Have you done a HPI check and found the photos of the damage pre repair? How bad was the damage?

I paid for a DEKRA report on a cat d car years ago. Glad I did. It was a mess.

Inspector told me he’d never seen a cat repaired car he’d be happy with.

3 MOTs since the damage has to be a positive, and if you plan to just run it till it drops the Cat marker won't be an issue for you.

Just so long as it is cheap enough why not?

Although ideally I'd want to see photos of the damage.

Insurers seem to apply Cat markers at random these days.

In 2018 my nephew had a minor coming together with a van in his car and his insurer decided it was a Cat S based purely upon photos he took with his phone!

There was no structural damage but they wouldn't shift. Anyway he kept the car and had it repaired with a 2nd hand bonnet and new wing bought on Ebay. What he got from his insurer covered a second wing for the other side and painting the front panels that had stone chips. laugh
