I am a vet and run a home visit euthanasia business.

I currently use my 2003 100 series Landcruiser for everything, it is perfect in every way apart from that I get 20-25mpg diesel, I am also putting too many miles on it and as the last manual landcruiser I want to delay replacing it.

I also have a 986 boxster that I used to use to commute to work but since starting this business last summer I have barely used.
The boxster is worth 5-8 k, so looking to sell this and buy something that I can also use for the business. I don't really want to spend much, so nominal budget 10K, preferably less.

Mileage will be 10-20k per year, comfort is the most important factor, followed by easy loading / unloading of occupied dog beds (big aperture important). Needs to look respectable / not flashy. Anything will have better fuel economy so that doesn't really matter, would be good if had enough poke to overtake on B roads. Happy to remove the rear seats to get a decent load space with a flat floor. Not keen on a van as they just look a bit impersonal.

Golf looks the obvious option, I have often had them as hire cars and they seem pretty solid, but have no idea on reliability / how many miles they are good for especially coming from Toyotas...

Any thoughts?

I looked at the Yeti, it's basically an ugly more practical golf, but weirdly they are more expensive than a golf...

If you like Golfs then get an estate version - or a Skoda Octavia or Seat Leon estate.

More boot space and if well specced will look professional and suitable somber.

Given your mileages, I'd go for a diesel. Since you are based in the south, probably a good idea to get something Euro 6 so it's clean air zone compliant. I'd probably go for a compact estate like one of these

Thanks, some good suggestions, I haven't looked at this type of car before so have a good idea of where to start...

Just got to find the service history folder for the Porsche now...

Rather than go for a small hatcback estate I'd suggest going for the next segment up they generally have better ride comfort lower NVH & just as much boot space.

I'd look at the last of the line Insignia.

I’m no expert but according to the experts on some of the please threads there are plenty coming due to the need to sell a certain amount of ev’s per year. Supposedly you just need to keep your ear to the grindstone.
