BYD ATTO 3: What are your thoughts

Not sure when you need a car, but I think when BYD decide they want to make a real push to gain UK market share we are going to see the Atto 3 at much lower prices.

In China for example BYD have just reduced the price on the Atto 3 to $16k. That is for the 50kwh battery rather than 60kwh we get in the UK but even the larger battery version is not going to be much more expensive.

Have you checked the insurance? Apparently these are expensive to insure at the moment, insurance companies concerned about parts availability in the event of an accident

A friend has a body shop. He has had a new hybrid JLR Discovery in since the start of December waiting for parts. Still no sign of them coming. Going to be a big bill!

Battery prices are coming down fast, and BYD in China have responded by lowering their RRP prices. We are getting to the point when actual EV cost are now in line with petrol/diesel cars. Next year they should be below the regular ice cars. The difficulty is that European makers are still pricing them based on the battery prices from 2 years ago, and they aren't building them at sufficient scale, hence a normal "entry level" EV starting at £30k rather than £20k.

Also BYD haven't shown much interest in the UK/European market yet, and they currently sell relatively few cars here. When the domestic market in China stabilises, and they switch their focus to exporting cars, I hope companies like VW etc are ready to be much more competitive.
