Cheapest way to do 15k miles without shedding
Discussion
Evening all
I'm a bit fed up of cheaper end motoring and shedding, I don't find it particularly cost effective but that's just my experience. I need something 5 doors with isofix and large boot, and above all, reliable.
Is there a better way?
Is there an ultra efficient engine on say a 4-8k car that's worth financing as the fuel savings pay for themselves? Any cheap lease deals I'm not aware of on something electric? Obviously depreciation then becomes a factor but the monthly cost of motoring is a high priority. Some of the newer Dacias are bi fuel with LPG, but this doesn't seem to be as good as it would have been ten years ago.
Just mulling this over as I hate driving knackered old heaps but also begrudge paying hundreds and hundreds per month for something that just takes me to work and back and the dog out for a walk.
I know this could be moon on a stick territory but interesting topic hopefully!

You can just about squeak a 40kWh Leaf for £8k. If you're after cheap then it's about as cheap as it gets. Our older Leaf costs so little to run it almost feels free. Plug it into a 3 pin socket, switch to a cheap overnight tarriff, set the charge timer and it'll be 4p a mile or thereabouts.
Batteries hold up just fine, 140 miles range, the actual car bit is just a Nissan hatchback so is tediously reliable and not that expensive when it needs suspension/brakes etc.

One of these would be great, but is the range genuinely 140 miles? I'd need that as a minimum reallyBatteries hold up just fine, 140 miles range, the actual car bit is just a Nissan hatchback so is tediously reliable and not that expensive when it needs suspension/brakes etc.

They all seem a tad overpriced or smack of future DPF, EGR, Injector, DMF issues
You'd do well to find the DPF on a 2.0 TDCi, it doesn't have one. The rest of the issues tend to come from poor servicing or unsuitable use case (short trips). The EGR is a nonevent to replace if it does start sticking, as unlike more modern cars it's easily accessible. The DMF isnt much of a problem these days as most people have swapped them out for the single mass version when replacing the clutch. Vsix and Vtec said:

They do have a DPF, mine had one, and gave issues too unfortunately SAS Tom said:

Sutton park Renault are doing hybrid Clios for £39 a month at the moment.
Wow that's cheap, wonder what the down payment is That Clio probably costs about £9k to rent for two years. Sounds like a very expensive way to borrow a car for two years and I believe that’s on a 6,000-mile-per-year contract, so would cost far more on a 15,000-mile-per-year contract, which is what the OP needs.
Car monthly payments are fundamentally meaningless unless you consider all the contract terms.
I'd say get one of these:

They're ULEZ compliant too which is a bonus.
