BMW F30 330D upgrade
Discussion
After having my beema for 7 years and with the potential of an extra 40 miles each day for my commute (all motorway). I’m thinking of getting something different.
I’m interested in the F30 330e, G20 330e or a C-class C300e.
I’ve heard the tank on the F30 330e is significantly smaller than the 330D counterpart and the battery on the C-class is much better than the BMW’s.
Seeing as all of them are 2.0T petrols whats the reliability like on them compared to my 3.0D which has never missed a beat.
Only interested in the powertrain and MPG. Anything else is a given.

F30 330d to F30 330e feels like a downgrade in your context (adding an extra 40 motorway miles to your commute) - Yes it'll function as a conventional hybrid when the PHEV battery depletes but what regen are you expecting at motorway cruising? You're just going to be slogging around the extra weight with a petrol engine that's working harder than its diesel counterpart.
I had an F31 320D that went in for the EGR recall and they gave me a G20 320i as a courtesy car for just over week. Not quite the same as the 330d to 330e move but in terms of the change of feel, the G20 felt like a substantial upgrade in every single way other than the seats (which felt the exact same). I'd have one of these in a heartbeat as our family car but the mrs hates BMW due to her parents having had BMW's all of her life and she associates them with being old (No point trying to reason with her on this one).

We have a G21 330e on lease and love it as a daily driver. Hybrid is perfect for us. Average long term is 65-70mpg and it’s quicker in gear acceleration than a 330d/330i and nicer to drive. Even on petrol only it’s the same as a 330i in terms of efficiency.
The G cars are a noticeable upgrade over the F series and definitely recommend.
The G20 330e seems to remap really well if you get the right car and cars are getting took to 400bhp. There is a market as well for cars where the battery is gone but people just buy them and run petrol only.
My cousin has a C300e on 120k miles now and it’s been bulletproof. It is slower, not as good to drive and less efficient than our 330e however I find it more roomy. Interior has held up brilliantly on the C300e so looks good in terms of a long term keeper.
Will say if it was my own money and I was buying a used car I’d probably not risk going hybrid despite how much we love ours unless it was quite new and very low miles.
