Thinking about flogging a Kia Sportage the missus has at the moment as I've had nothing but issues with it since purchased.

How do Ateca's compare to Sportage space and spec wise?

They seem smaller in size, but being VAG hopefully more robust.

The warranty really is a false economy to me, I've got a Passat thats 7 years old and even being the second owner its kept well so not majorly interested in the high warranty selling point.

Budget is 17/18k and <40k, 3 4 years at a push.

My wife has had a 1.4 TSI Ateca for a couple of years now and absolutely loves it.

It's now on 70,000 miles and hasn't missed a beat. It averages an easy 40mpg and is able to keep up with traffic easily. It isn't quick.

Hers is the Excellence spec with Car Play, heated leather, keyless etc. Rear space is decent as is boot space.

Even though I don't particularly like crossovers it's actually not bad and I can see why she likes it.

17/18 should see you in a facelift Ateca (superman grille like this) from 2020 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2024030170... mile dependent, and spec too of course. The small engine basic ones are cheap. But.... Cheap.

FR sport like that one has heated electric memory leather, oddly the Excellence Lux has manual leather despite being the "posh" one. Visually the Sport has more body colouring around the wheel arches and sills, and looks more Tiguan as a result.

Back seats are back seats. That contrasts with the Tiguan where they tilt and slide, if you care. Or the Skoda Karoq, where in the right spec they can even come out, which maxxes space of course.

Ateca is simple, the range has limited options. VW and Skoda, fecking nightmare with what you get.

Same.cash Sportage is a well equipped older shape, 70/71 maybe, where even the 3 can have leather but the 4 defo does, space wise there's a little less in the cabin thanks to the slight cliff edge dash, but a deeper boot.

You wouldn't really choose one over the other for room I don't think. There is a lot more as standard thats for sure I think the Kia has dated fast myself, but the significant change to the newer version has probably accelerated that, here's a cheap old shape 4 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2023111640... being range top it has the roof, heated rear seats as well as front, and tilty back seats.

One thing to watch with Kia is the headrests, they force your head forward in the front, so you defo need to try them and be happy you can get your shoulder blades against the seat. Unless you like driving with your head forward a lot.

So the Sportage model I bought was one year off getting Car Play and it was a bummer but liveable, I think it would be nice to get that.

Thanks I could stretch to 19 to get that level of spec as it's practically Rline Tig.

No way I'm going for Kia again so won't even bother clicking that link!

I do look at Kias myself for our next car but cant help feeling when they get to a few years old they start to play up.
Pity really as the X Ceed looks a nice car and £15k gets you into something tidy.

Hers is a 2018 car, Seat call it Full Link for Android Auto / Car Play.

As another poster mentioned it's worth having a look at the Skida Karoq too, VAG specs are all over the place sometimes.

If "won't go wrong" is what you're after then look at the RAV4

I've had one before, have one now, and would buy another in a heartbeat.

If I could only ever buy one car brand again that I could afford it would be Toyota.

In all honesty I think you've just had a bad one, as someone who supplies cars the Kia/Hyundai's are more reliable than the VAG equivalents.

I'd suggest taking a good look at the Ford Kuga:

Thanks for the lists.

I had a Kuga for a rental and really liked it, the 1.5L TDCi surprised me and felt more powerful than the 2.0L current lump, this is one of the reasons im not feeling the kia, it struggles with a 2L lump for some reason and barely get over 40MPG on motorway journeys.

Out of those look wise I'd snatch the DS7, but feels risky.

I wonder if I did buy a wroungun yes with the current car, but when the dealer I bought it from shrugged their shoulders at a clutch issue that eventually got done under warranty (Post is elsewhere) they tarnished.

I'm guessing you've got the 2.0 N/A petrol, they do feel sluggish, I get where you're coming from it's left a bad taste.

The DS7 is a very good car well worth a test drive,

The later 1.6T engine in the Kia is a much better suited to the Sportage.

Not really although it would be first choice.
