I'm considering adding another car to the family fleet to fill what I think is a bit of gap in terms of our needs.

At the moment we have:

- 2013 Porsche Cayene Turbo - main family car, for short school runs and commuting for the wife
- 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (got an issue we are trying to fix then will be sold)
- 2007 Skoda Octavia - my Dad's old car which we held onto in case of emergencies, getting scruffy now and not particularly a fan of driving it.
- 2001 VX220 SC - fun car but very rarely used
- 2015 Ariel Atom Cup - not mine but I have the use of it 90% of the time and is stored at my house

I need a second car for occasional family use while my wife is using the Cayenne, I'm also doing more and more trips to away football matches (such as 250 miles to Blackburn in a few weeks) where I need something that is relatively comfortable, can take 4 adults and is also fairly economical to make those trips palletable. I did have a Mercedes S500 LWB which was lovely but died. That was uncomfortably thirsty for long trips and parking it was a nightmare due to the size.

The Cayenne has been away getting fixed for the last 2 months and I've had a 2014 Mercedes E220 disesel which has seemed to kind of fit the bill reasonably well as a second family car, big enough but not too big, reasonably frugal, reasonably comfortable. Something similar to that for around £5-7k would probably work well, but the question is what else in that kind of sector should I be looking at as well? It doesn't need to be in any way fun, just comfortable, smart and practical for that role. Preferably reliable too!

Jaguar XF? Looks great inside and out, possibly need to avoid the 2 litre Ingenium engines which means you can't have the post 2016 aluminium version.
Mazda6 - Will be reliable and has loads of equipment, and they look nice without being at all flashy.
BMW 6 series convertible - Depends how tall/comfortable the adults need to be, but you are lacking a nice GT car.
