Looking at maybe getting a new car soon and have spotted a ceed gt in my price range aswell as a few fiesta st's. Just wondering what people think would be the better choice? Are the ceed gt's reliable?

I've also seen a Mk6 golf GTi and an astra gtc vxr which are also tempting if they are better choices.

What is your budget? Are higher mileage Megane 250'S in budget?

Just changing my 2018 Proceed GT (the 3 door version) after 5 years of ownership, bought it when it was a year old.

In the almost 60,000 miles I've put on it had zero problems other than normal wear parts (brakes, tyres, etc.). Did have to get the the front suspension bushes replaced last year I think, maybe the year before, but that was done under warranty.

Averaged around 35mpg during that time it is possible to see just over 40mpg if driven sensibly but 35 was easily achievable.

Still (to my eyes at least) a fantastic looking car, much prefer it to the newer version.

Watch out for corrosion on the wheels, mine has the diamond cut wheels and they are all in need of attention. There are people that have had them done under warranty but mine didn't qualify - would have had them powder coated if I was keeping it.

Not going to set the world on fire but it is quick enough for day to day use.

No idea about the other choices but the Proceed is a good choice.

Budget is £8k. I do like the idea of a megane 250 as I had a 225 in the past and loved it. Can't find any close to me in the north east however

Yeah they definitely caught my eye and don't see many about unlike the fiesta. Glad to hear they are quite reliable as it is slightly edging it over other choices for now.

Buy the fiesta you won’t regret it.

I’m at 125k miles on mine. Had rear axle bushes at 110k, hasn’t had anything else other than routine maintenance.

It will do 40mpg without an issue and I’ve seen 50mpg when trying very hard in the summer when it’s warm.

Very playful car and you can rev it out in a few gears without being in license losing speeds. Driving it hard will still return high 20s.

Depends on how you yse the car.

I still love my ST 180 after nearly 4 years of ownership. My mileage is fairly low with most of my driving being B roads between towns and country lanes. I'm also on my own in the car 90% of the time so can have some fun anytime I like. The Fiesta is a jot on these kinds of roads, it's taut and agile and the seats grip you tight in the corners. The weight of the controls feels just right and the engine is a peach.

Where it falls down a bit is on longer drives, motorway use and carrying passengers. Being a small car it is a bit stiff and bouncy and those seats can be uncomfortable after a while. Passengers complain about the ride and there's obviously less space than you'd get in the Kua which is a class larger.

I'm sure the Ceed is a decent enough car. It won't be as much fun as an ST but there are situations where it might be more suitable.

I test drove a Pro Ceed GT a long time ago. Was a really quality product inside and the outside looked really nice. I didn't rate it to drive though. For a quoted circa 200 BHP, it just didn't feel that fast. Admittedly, the test drive I had wasn't great but I had a 120 BHP Scirocco at the time and it didn't feel much slower. Just didn't have any urgency to it. However, I'm sure it's a nice car to spend time in and they are good value now when I looked recently.

Fiesta ST was the best car I've ever test-driven. You just got in it and it all just made sense. Was fun at low speeds (obviously even better when giving it some) and I didn't have any issue with the ride quality. Great car to drive and nice enough inside and out as a daily. They do get nicked quite alot though, so something to bear in mind. Finding a decent un-modified one can also be a challenge. Should be cheap to run though but it is a class smaller.

Megane 250 are also great cars. They're solid and a proper drivers FWD hot-hatch but they will be more to run. They do have expensive suspension bits and the big cambelt service is pricey but it's every 5 years. They can also suffer with gearbox issues, so something else to bear in mind.

MK6 GTI are nice and I'm a big VW fan. I'd personally go for a DSG one, which does add additional service costs and potential issues. These have cam-chain issue so find one that's been changed recently or factor it into the price. Can be a bit more pricey on parts and etc but lots of specialists around. Astra GTC VXR are good value now too. I don't know a whole lot about them but I believe these can have gearbox issues too. Lots of chavved-up ones out there unfortunately.

Leon Cupra 280's are dipping down below £10k now. Might be able to get a leggy one in budget which would be an awesome car for the money.
