Hi all,

I’ve got a deal agreed but no deposit yet on a 2020 Volvo S60 T5 Inscription Plus. That’s at 21k, 70 plate with 26k on the clock - https://selekt.volvocars.co.uk/en-gb/store/all/veh...

However, I do like the look of the Arteon and especially in this marmite colour - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202310173...

What are peoples thoughts on the big VW, in particular this 2.0 Tsi engine. Reliability, comfort, things to look out for?
I do a lot of MTBing so the additional space is appealing but the Volvo is also fine in that regard.
I feel the VW can come down a grand or so at least but it is appealing.
The Volvo would come with 2 years warranty & 2 years servicing – only 1 year non Manufacturer approved on the VW with no servicing included.

The 2.0 TSI is a great engine. I've had it in a couple of cars now. It's quick, quiet, sounds good for a 4-cylinder, easy to tune, smooth, works well paired with the DSG, good on fuel, etc. They have a few common weaknesses, but they're well documented and it's a strong engine that's been around for a while now.

For MTBs the big Arteon tailgate access is ideal vs a saloon boot. The VW wins surely?

TBH the bikes will be on a roof rack. Space is more for me and kit. I just want quiet, relaxing, reliable and comfy - all versus best value for money.
Heart is saying the Arteon because I like the looks and colour - head is saying Volvo because I'm 2 years frm 50 and like the quiet luxury of it.

The Volvo will win for boring comfort I'd imagine. Had a V90 and it was effortless over long distances.

Never been in an Arteon, but is it not basically an A5? So it's probably also very good. Definitely a more interesting colour, but is that a good thing?!

Imagine both will have similar reliability factors.

The VW is a great colour and I like the interior but those wheels on the VW are too high maintenance for me.

Have you thought of a similar V90 as would also give you the option for bikes / kit in the boot rather than on the roof...?

Thanks all, went for the Volvo in the end. Got a decent deal and it is just so comfy to drive.
Also tested a 320 touring and 420 gran coupe. 420 was a19 plate so the old tech and just felt too dated inside. Touring was lovely but just not as nice a place to be than the old fart volvo.
If it were an only car my decision would be totally the other way but went for head over heart smile
