clio williams 2. what to look for when buying?
Discussion
going to look at a williams 2 the weekend. any ideas what to look out for? are spare parts non existent now ? i have checked the mot history and it had corrosion underneath which was then repaired and isn't mentioned on the next mot . it isn't a low mileage minter and is priced reasonable so want to get hold of one before they become unobtainable to the average person. any advice greatly appreciated
1) buy eeeeeet. Fab things. Think there's a RR thread on one where the NLA parts it set out. Failing that,

I had a williams 3, they're amazingly fun cars and nippy with that huge 2.0 engine wedged in there.
What to look out for: RUST.
Open the fuel cap and check inside if you see even the tiniest bit of rust you're going to have issues of a large nature soon enough as im sure theres 2 skins and with the inner one starting to go means a lot of work cutting back towards it.
Parts for the body are getting super super rare and even if you can get stuff from the standard clio 1.8 you will need them painting to the williams blue.
Wheels are the same and becoming rare i can imagine too and the car just isn't the same without those gold standard alloys.
Doing a service on these cars is a nightmare even the oil filter is just a pain in the arse, it's wedged under the inlet manifold which wraps around and the reverse bonnet makes getting to it a nightmare where you'll have to remove the light unit to just get your hand in, when you see the size of the filter you'll understand just how wedged in it is.
Aside from all of the woes it will bring theyre amazing cars that handle so well (even if i crashed mine), i can always remember jacking the front wheel up and it standing on 1 wheel as the rest would just lift up while jacked.
