Would anyone be able to help with brokers who sell insurance by the month for drivers without much history? I have lived abroad for 20 years,am now mid fifties and will come back to UK soon with no NCB. I need a small petrol car for just a few months and will likely buy rather than hire. Any pointers gratefully received.

If you get a BMW, the BMW Flex is supposed to be quite reasonable and a monthly thing - but they won't cover anything with modifications. Presume it extends to Mini too.

All of the online aggregators should be able to do this.

Failing that you may be best giving a personal lines broker like A Plan now Howden a call or nip into your nearest brokers.

Last port of call would be the NFU.

All brokers offer instalment plans through third party finance houses.

Would also be worth a call to see if they would accept your overseas NCB (if you had a policy)?

Monthly insurance, where it does exist, tends to be really quite expensive. Probably better to buy an annual policy and look closely at the cancellation provisions - the cheapest policy annually may not allow as much of a refund on cancellation.
