Dear all,

- I am getting my new car within this month.
- My family can for now can get by with one car thus plan is to sell my existing car privately

WBAC values my Astra J diesel at 1.5k, anticipating they knock off some more for this and that. Auto trader between 1.3-2.3k.

I was going to advertise for 2.0-2.3 fixed on gumtree and test whether I have the patience to deal with idiots.

However, Clutch just sank halfway when driving between first gear and second gear, I had to pull up with my foot to come home. Driving itself was fine but I parked the car havent driven since.

Please Help with advice what to do if I need to replace the clutch (assuming price will be £500-£700, should have a quote this week when I see mechanic)?

Do I bother fixing before or sell as it is?

Informed individual would also want timing belt/water-pump changed which I thought is reflected in the price (400-500 at mechanic but bargain if anyone can do the work themselves). Cars at dealers are 3.5k-4k usually with worse service history and better paint.

Please tell me whether I would see the money back if I fix and pay for maintenance or how I should value the car.

I was hoping I pay off some debt with the proceeds from sale but I guess plan for me was different.

Many thanks

RD-1

Find out what the problem is first.

It could be something simple and cheap like a slave cylinder or fluid leak, rather than a clutch.

Good luck.

Sounds like clutch cylinder so fix that and sell it.

What is the maximum you would spend fixing a car from this price range?
