I'm helping a mate's wife who wants a small SUV, annual miles < 12,000 so I'm suggesting petrol. My initial thoughts are a Kia/Hyundai with a mfr warranty - does this sound about right?

Utterly gash interior. Utterly. Gash. Such a shame for a good looking little car.

Mitsubishi ASX is value in late spec, old shape Vauxhall Mokka in Elite is nice with heated leather and will save even more money. 1.4T actually OK to drive. But marmite I appreciate but is bigger than many (taller).

Early 20 plate Puma just a little over budget miles dependent, but best of a bad bunch of driver's cars if that matters. I suspect not.

Kia Stonic as exciting as Asda own brand porridge, but get a trim level 4 and you get heated seats and wheel. Larger Xceed will have mediocre trim at this price point.

V40 cross country posh, may be older, but far better build quality than cheap Korean budget stuff.

Talking of which, Ssangyong has a few if they're not badge conscious, outside chance of warranty etc if they have a dealer close.by.

ETA loads of Renault Captur's apparently coming off 3 year motability deals, interior a bit basic, but an OK.choice.

Peugeot 2008/3008 or their Citroen equivalent?

1.2 engine is perky enough and pretty frugal. Millions nor the things out there so must be pretty reliable. Had a 2008 as a hire car and it was a nice place to be with plenty of equipment even on the base model and a decent sized boot for what is classed as a small suv.

It'll all depend on how she does that 12k a year, if it's mixed driving then a diesel could easily work but if they want a petrol I'd suggest the Kuga is a good option.

If you want a smaller then the 500X is a great option:

You could probably get a nearly new Dacia Sandalwearing Steptoe for that, with 3 years of warranty?

If she wants genuine ability rather than SUV looks in a crossover, a Dacia Duster would definitely be worth a look.
