Hi all,

Current setup

Just wanted to ask your advice, I currently motor around in a petrol manual Honda Jazz 2009 1.4L approx. 8k miles pa, which is a superb little runner and I love her to bits BUT I would like to upgrade to something more modern. and manual gets tiresome

Requirements

Automatic,
decent MPG
Reliable
approx 8k pa mileage by me
5 door
petrol, hyrbid or EV (I don't mind) I have off street parking at home
ULEZ compliant
budget £9k to 13k
looks like a man car

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thank you

You'll get a good Toyota auris in that price range, not sure what you mean by a man's car.

The Auris is a great car mechanically, but subject to catalytic converter theft unfortunately.

The Yaris hybrid is better than the Jazz but might not be ‘manly’ - no theft worries as it has the cat in the engine bay.

I’ve owned a V40, they’re ok but just a ford focus underneath and you pay a premium for Volvo parts and servicing.

Giggled at looks like a man car but I do know what you mean.

ZX10R NIN’s suggestion are and almost always are good. I think I’ve only disagreed once and that was a cheap car with expensive consumables.

We’ve owned a V40, boring and can’t fault them. I’d say that’s a good recommendation. Can’t comment on the Toyotas or Kias.

There’s probably a newer Jazz that perfectly fits the requirements other than possibly the man car one but that never bothered my brother using one as a baby wagon. Same bloke will walk down to the shops in a kimono and sliders. Sometimes you have to forget what others think. I’ve just realised I won’t be on Honda’s advertising team any time soon.

ETA in Tokyo.

There was a Mk3 1.5 Jazz sport they sold a few of with 130hp that might be useful, you can get it with CVT automatic as well.

If we can forego the masculinity side of things, Id say a nissan leaf at the bottom end of budget. Tekna spec is particularly appealing 2018 onwards).

Otherise any toyota/lexus hybrid.

IS300h perhaps

IS300 isn’t 5 dr. More’s the pity as I’d probably have owned one in the past if it was, But I’m not the OP so worth a look. I’ve owned an IS250 and they’re a nice place to sit.
