Insurance renewal declined - why?
Discussion
Stepson is 33, in full time work, no claims, no convictions, no debts, no CCJ's etc, nothing has changed whatsoever, he's been with the insurers for the last 4 years and renewal due end of the month.........today he gets an email saying renewal declined for absolutely no reason whatsoever -why?

Just use Go Compare and take your business elsewhere. To be honest with insurance companies taking the mick with renewal quotes that's what most people should do.
I did Compare the meerkat for him and price was double what he paid previously but I declared "yes" to "have you ever been declined" because the paperwork they sent for his NCB proof clearly said he had been "declined".....doesn't seem right to me......I will do a few more quotes for him but they are probably all about the same I would think.LimmerickLad said:

He hasn't been declined, they just won't offer a renewal - un-tick that boxLastPoster said:
Have they used the word declined. I have just had the same, but the word declined is not used, just "We're not going to offer to renew your car insurance"
This is what it states:"Decline notice"
Policy number - xxxxx Vehicle reg - xxxxxxx
"Dear xxxxxxxxxx
Your policy is due for renewal on 01/03/2024 but, unfortunately, we’re unable to offer you a renewal this year.
No Claims Discount at expiry: 4 Years
You can use this document as proof of No Claims Discount for your next insurer."
I'd always assumed that being declined insurance meant that nobody would insure you.
Technically I was declined insurance 10 years ago because I bought a rwd sports car and my usual insurance company wouldn't insure me as they said I didn't have experience driving a rwd car. I just went elsewhere and it was fine. Not for a minute dud I ever consider that I'd been declined insurance.
Maybe you could get quotes without having been declined but then call the new insurers to check its okay? Other than that I think I'd call the current provider and ask that they reissue your proof of no claims but remove the word 'declined' as it seems to be their problem.

I have absolutely no problem with an insurer declining to offer a renewal because you no longer fit their desired customer profile.
The idea that that should see you lumped in with people who had policies cancelled for fraud and penalised for years is just crazy.
It needs careful clarification whether this is something that needs declaring but I fear it does.

They might have just decided the risk profile of your stepson, car etc just aren’t something they want. Was reading an article, an insurance company decided to stop insuring someone’s Honda Jazz, because cat theft was making them high risk. They wouldn’t renew a long standing customers premium.
Was a thread here of JLR not insuring their own cars, because the risk was deemed too great, having set up their own insurance product because so many insurance firms were refusing to insure Range Rovers, because the risk was too great.
I wouldn’t take it personally.

Without being disrespectful to him I should say I do all of his paperwork, CV's etc as he lacks confidence in himself and, although not officially diagnosed as such, he is a bit on the autistic spectrum (think of him as a lovely gentle giant, 34 and never been kissed). I doubt he would be able to speak to insurers himself to resolve this and I would hate to not tick the right box and then find something happens later and he is technically uninsured because of this............hence why I am dithering more than perhaps I might do otherwise...thanks for all the contributions

Reading this it sounds like you need to declare it on any insurance quote for the rest of your driving days!
I'd be trying to get to the bottom of this with the insurer (online chat, email etc if you dont want to ring) as it will no doubt increase premiums and probably also result in less insurers quoting.
Ridiculous and it downright stinks if your stepson has done nothing wrong, not missed any payments (if applicable) etc and he is being punished for this, I'd be furious!

I wouldn’t call that a decline, when you go on Compare the market etc there will be lots of companies who don’t quote, your stepson’s insurance are doing the same, deciding not to quote. On a site I use you can un-hide the companies that don’t want to offer, or I should say view them!

I often wondered about this.
Driving quick cars in my early 20’s most insurance companies wouldn’t touch me.
I always thought insurance declined was used to describe withdrawal of an offer once one had been made due to something undisclosed surfacing.
Essentially because you had lied.
Refusing to renew or refusal to take the risk cannot be something you include for the rest of your life otherwise everyone would tick that box & therefore it would become an irrelevance for risk profiling.
However I am wrong:
Car insurance is a scam, honestly the table is weighted SO heavily in their favour it borders on criminal.
I can’t think of another area of business that the majority of people engage with that operates on such an arbitrary basis of ‘we make up the rules & you go along with it because you have to buy our product by law’.
Very very glad I’m with an agricultural mutual and out of the rat race for car insurance.

Since an insurance company prefers to have policyholders that represent lower risks, they tend to decline insurance applications from entities that represent higher risks and chances of claims. The decline of request for insurance coverage depends on the standards of an insurance company, so one insured declining an application does not mean all other insurers will decline it as well. An appeal can be a solution to the rejection, and it is usually recommended to seek the services of a risk specialist to obtain a policy in extreme cases.

Declined car insurance means an insurer has refused to cover you. You may not have met the right criteria for the policy, or they may have knowledge of misdemeanours in your past and see you as too much of a risk to insure.
You could be declined car insurance for a new policy or a renewal for an existing one.
Do basically unless you spend you life only living in a leafy suburb driving boring cars you will probably have been declined at some juncture. You could be declined car insurance for a new policy or a renewal for an existing one.
