Hi all,

Had a BMW 218 coupe for 3 years now and need something more practical

Criteria are
Ideally newer than 2019
Less than about 30k miles
Up to £22k
Seat 4 adults in comfort for long trips
Petrol as I no longer have a mammoth commute
Very well equipped
Auto preferred
As quick as possible, but doesn't need to be a rocketship

I am struggling to see past a Volvo S60 T5...anyone got any alternative ideas

I'm not a badge snob (honestly) but can't really see a Ford or Vauxhall as being the answer, don't want an Infiniti as had a Q50 before, quite like 'mainstream but unusual'

S60 is a good shout, but can be a little firm on ride. If it’s comfort you want, an S/V90 would be my choice. The 190bhp variant is plenty even for a car that size.

Not a bad shout, think the Volvo is a better looking car, and I have had a Skoda before (Superb back around 2006/7)

Another vote for a Skoda Octavia vRS - quick, loads of room, practical hatch, a lot of car for the money

Looks like a good suggestion. If the OP likes his current 2-series coupe, then this is a nice step up. "Only" four cylinders, but still a quick car, and enough room for four adults.

We have just bought a 20 plate V60 II T4, with good spec including adaptive cruise and heated seats I cant fault it really. £24k 30k on the clock.
The bonnet line does feel big, and the petrol is thirsty and the diesel drives just as well, but we where struggling to find a D4 with the adaptive cc.

Other main contender was the 2.0 TDi Gen4 Octavia. MIL has the has the Gen3 (1.5Tsi DSG), both are nice cars although the Tsi pairs less well with the DSG in my opinion. I actually found the g4 Octavia a nice drive, better gear change than the Volvo, but Volvo does look nicer from the front, and feel nicer inside, and the mrs had very fond memories of her childhood volvos so why not! My daily is an E46 330ci.

If you're at all interested this link should give access to a spreadsheet I put together to compare car dims/performance.
