I just wanted some advice. I've just sold my 2017 Kodiaq which was fully loaded including every driver aid.

I now want something manual, a bit of fun, whilst still being a reliable daily. I have found a couple of options.

Option 1 - 2017 Seat Leon FR TDI 184 Manual - done about 93,000 miles with full service history.

Option 2 - 2017 Honda Civic 1.5 Petrol V-TEC Turbo - done 148,000 miles with 1 owner and full dealership service history.

I'll be doing a couple school runs a week, driving to and from uni which is about a 30-40 miles motorway journey each way, and will be driving b roads occasionally too, so want something that will be fun. The pros and cons i see are that the civic has much more tech, including adaptive cruise control, but the Leon is an estate so more practical, and I have heard that the Leon is more fun to drive. I do about 12000 miles a year, which a lot of are just driving around having a bit of fun with friends or alone.

Some advice would be great.

The mk10 civic has gone backwards in terms of build quality. I have a mk9 65 reg and you can tell where corners have been cut in that.

Id go for a decent drive in the civic and check the build quality I think you'll quickly chalk it off the list.

The Leon is a great car and the 184hp diesel version will feel pretty quick, mid range torque especially strong. Practical size if not the biggest estate available. Consider also an Octavia VRS.

Is the civic one of the ones with the catalytic converters that get nicked?

As you previously owned a Skoda why not look at an Octavia VRS?

Is there any reason you’re narrowing your choices down to these two? They’re not really going to be fun. Do you need a large hatchback/estate or could you have a sports car or coupe? Mk2 Audi TTs can be good value if you’re around the £8000 budget and are practical, 2.0 TSI is a nice engine, won’t be the most fun to fling around but highly competent and more fun than the Leon and Civic. Mini Cooper S is massive fun and there are also coupe and roadster options as well as the hatchback and surprisingly practical. If fun is the brief there’s all sorts of options that would work better.

Thanks guys, old post. I ended up with a Passat GTE Advance estate, lovely car until the gearbox destroyed itself within 4 months of ownership
