Looking for an estate as new as possible for up to 12k but I'd like to spend less.

Preferably low ish miles say under 60k if possible

Reliable as much as can be, auto preffered..

Decent size and not too hideous

I'm thinking Skoda Octavia but they're a bit boring.. Mondeo maybe..

I'd like something with a bit of grunt really

Any suggestions gratefully received

Cheers

Great shout thank you didn't think of these

Seen an A4 with the same engine, was wondering if it's enough to drag its big frame around

The issue with the DSG version of these when paired with the 1.4 TSI in the Golf-based platform (so Leon, Octavia, A3, etc) is that they use the dry clutch DQ200, which isn't a great gearbox. In the Audi A4 they are mounted longitudinally and use the better DL382. The 1.4 TSIs get the car about just fine as they have 150 bhp and 180 lb ft of torque from 1500 rpm. Not quite sure I'd even describe them as "warm" though - maybe the 2.0 T(F)SI would be the warm version.

What about this Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer with only 31k miles and a 2.0T with 220 bhp for a fiver under 8 grand?

Same as the Mondeo mentioned above.

This is probably where I’d be looking. Have the same engine and gearbox combo in our S-Max and it’s been faultless for the last 30k miles we’ve had it (at 76k now).

240bhp so not a slouch, gearbox is very smooth. Just a heads up though, it’s a Poweshift box but just make sure it’s been serviced exactly when it’s needed. It’s an expensive job and some people skip it. If it hasn’t been done, walk away. Provided these boxes are serviced when they should be they are brilliant but skipping services leads to failures and you’re talking 4 figure repair/replacement bills.

You won’t see over 30mpg around town but it’s reasonable on a run.

That’s a very capable and presentable motor. Nice spot.

I'm a bit biased and this one appears to be sold, but:
