Im considering chopping my Elise in later this year or early next year, its a garage queen i just dont use enough and have considered the 2 above but would start daily driving it on a fairly short commute of 13 miles each way.
Would also use for a weekend blast now and again too.
I know the looks of the type R divide opinion but every time i see one on the road i think fair play to the owner.
2 very different cars but each with their own merits.
The M2 is just winning at the moment but i do worry about RWD and being confident to drive it fairly hard when the time allows, the Type R would probably just lap up whatever you could throw at it.
I prefer the look of the FK2 tbh, budget would be ideally £25k.
I know most will shy away from the Type R due to its looks but ive always liked the slightly lairly looking cars of old such as the Mitsubishi Evos etc.

Is insurance a consideration, M2 premiums have sky rocketed

I would say yes, although I'm 50 they are probably still going to be high.

Have to say I’ve driven neither, but £25k is also FK8 territory, and whilst the looks are subjective, I’m sure many will suggest the FK8 would be better on most levels.

Personally I love how both Type Rs look.

I've read the FK8 addresses the issues over the previous model, will do some reading.

I'm looking at doing the exact same thing! I have a vx220 but never use it, sits in the garage. I want something that I can use daily and drive to track days in relative comfort.

You can get an FK2 from 16k which I think is excellent value. They are meant to be reliable and don't have many known issues so I would be relatively comfy buying private.

I think the Civic could fill the hole left by an Elise/VX, probably just as capable.
