Just wanted to check with people who know more than me . I’ve been offered a straight swap with this freelander2 for my VW golf 1.9L 91700 miles. The freelander 2 is 2012 and 206000 miles. It’s not advisory are :
Expiry date
19 October 2024
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Rear Oil leak, but not excessive Diff (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Any advice? It’s a straight swap no cash.

I’ve no personal experience of owning a FL2 but I know they can suffer with failed couplings on the rear prop shaft, with some owners removing the rear prop as an easy bodge fix, meaning it’s no longer 4x4.

Stick your head under the rear end to check for missing prop shaft.

Does not sound like a good swap for you tbh.

So you are going from something that’s solid & reliable & on relatively low miles in the form of a 1.9 PD TDI Golf to something that’s known to have questionable reliability and is nearing its end of life mileage.

I’m getting conflicting advise regarding the mileage , some are saying it’s still got a good few miles on it?

This.

I suspect both vehicles are worth a similar amount on paper (ie. not much) but a leggy Freelander is going to need plenty spending on it to keep it going.
