Anyone on here run an F-Pace? If so what are they like and what is the pick of the range (bar the SVR) engine wise?
We're looking 2 years max and want to ensure decent reliability, something I know is often levelled against the Velar as an example. Ideally we'd want petrol hybrid but its not an essential.
I know it's the same family as land rover but are the engines and general running more reliable than the rest of the family?

We ran one of the dreaded 2.0l diesel ones for 3 years. We took it from 1 years old to 4 years old and increased mileage from roughly 10k to approx. 40k.

In that time we didn't have any major issues. We did experience the following minor issues/niggles though:

1) Glitchy touchscreen/nav unit. Always solved by switching the whole car off and on again but annoying still.

2) Car died at traffic lights at least twice. Then seemingly wouldn't start for 2 or 3 mins (felt like forever though!).

3) Really poor materials / body work quality. For example, the paint on the engine stop/start button completely worn out by approx. 30k miles. And, a body shop who repaired our bumper after an incident with a bollard telling me that how terrible the quality of the bodywork is.

Granted, this was the older model so the above may be solved. For example, I've heard the the pivi pro is great. However, certainly put me off getting another! Although, I am regularly tempted by the newer SVR.

I have a nagging memory of someone on here with a thread covering a few teething issues with the diesel… hehe

Yes, Escy has one

The V8 sounds to be the most reliable engine, so would be the sensible choice wink

Been running a 2017 3.0D S for the last year and 10k miles - been faultless and a fantastic vehicle so far.

Get the 2.0 ingenium diesel engine it’ll never breakdown, run forever and it has extra long service periods too. flames

Your looking in the wrong place if reliability is a top concern.

Thanks all.
I was hoping there'd be a reasonably strong engine in the line up (and I'm fully aware of the trash that is the ingenium).
We've owned an evoque with the 2.2 diesel, since new in Sept 14. Put 90k on the clock and its been ultra reliable, maybe we've just been lucky.

In my next JLR car we're going to get a 3.0 or the 4.4, my wife has had a 16 plate discovery sport, 2.0 she's put 40,000 miles (so now on 60,000) and other than consumables and a battery it's also been faultless.

The 2.2 PSA lump is a solid and fundamentally reliable engine, if a little agricultural.

You'll be fine with a 3.0d F-pace, just avoid the Ingenium as per previous posts.

Weve had a supercharged 3.0 V6 petrol S model.
Much to my surprise it was faultless for 2 years, from 50k mileage to 75k mileage.

Then it was unceremoniously stolen off the drive.

In conclusion, check insurance quotes as this wasn't an isolated incident surrounding this model.
Invest in theft prevention/deterrents for peace of mind

Our Disco 5 was in garage for a service last week and they gave me an F Pace, 3.0 litre petrol MHEV (I think), apparently 399 bhp, it was a 23 plate.

I was really impressed with it, great drive, super comfortable, plenty of power. Interior quality was also very good and the new Pivi pro screen very good, albeit I did only have it for 2 days.

As for reliability, not had one so I can't comment, but I have done 80,000 miles in Range Rover, and 2 Discovery's and in that time I had one new air suspension compressor and anti roll bar bushes replaced (under warranty), which in my book is decent over that mileage. Plus the usual consumables of course.

On insurance, I had a quote for an SVR, the 3.0 litre against our Disco. Disco is £1100, FPACE 3.0 was about the same and SVR was only £100 more, which surprised me. Obviously many variables can affect.

An F Pace has surprisingly gone on my list for the potential Disco replacement.

My Mrs has one with the time bomb engine (bought sept 2020). Been 100% reliable so far, but full warranty is extended every year. Doesn't feel like a good engine for a vehicle this size though (inherent weaknesses aside).
Only issues we've had are split Aircon hose and detached rear washer pipe.

Both of the diesels are to be avoided, the 3.0L snaps its crank catastrophically, the failings with the smaller engine already pointed out below.
