Currently have a Golf R. It's great, no real complaints, it's my 4th? Maybe 5th Golf R? My 7th MQB platform car and I'm kinda just sick of it and want something different. Sick of driving at 13 mph trying to avoid potholes and just generally feeling uncomfortable in the car. 19 inch wheels and skinny tyres. I do have the Dynamic suspension option and it doesn't really feel like it softens to where I want it to be.

Looked at Tiguan R, SQ5, X3M & Macan.

Tiguan - Another VW product.
SQ5 - Generally not keen on it.
X3M - I try and like BMW's but just can't get on with them.
Macao - Looks good to me.

Can't go any bigger than those as the wife won't drive 'a big car', don't want anything smaller as it defeats the purpose of wanting a bigger boat type car.

I've done a spec on an S & GTS but I just need a bit of help to figure out the differences. I can see they don't end up on sites like drive the deal or car wow so unsure how best to negotiate figures with them. Can you?

I'll probably try and get a test drive sorted on one within the next few weeks but would like to be prepared.

There are loads for sale. I would have a play with the Porsche Configurator to decide what spec you want as it can vary massively and then search for it on places like Auto trader or the Approved Used Porsche site.
The GTS has a different front than an S for example so you will find a some S models specc'd upto GTS levels (like mine) but without the extra bhp or the more firm ride.......

......once you have found one it's all about your negotiating skills as to cheap you can get it !!

I have an R on 19" Pretoria's with DCC too and was looking at SUV's on AT last night... as ever everything seems way overpriced. It's the 35 profile tyres. I feel like downgrading to some 18" Cadiz with higher profile tyres would solve this problem and save thousands of pounds. But not look as good. biglaugh

Maybe modern cars are better - but I have an old Cayenne with air suspension, and even in comfort mode I wouldn't say it handles pot holes that much better than other cars. Maybe slightly, but it's not night and day difference.

Instead I may be choosing to go from 19" wheels to 21" wheels. HA

Not sure if you are locked on for a Macan and in fairness I haven't driven one to be able to comment on the ride comfort. However, I share the sentiments on the ride, I have an M4 which on the right roads is great, but on many of our degrading UK roads is somewhat tiresome.

I also have a Discovery 5 and the ride on 20" wheels is ok. It was in for a service last week and the dealer leant be a 2023 Jaguar F Pace. It was the 3 litre petrol turbo, 399 bhp and was on 22in wheels which I actively avoided on the Discovery.

My point in mentioning this is it may be an option size wise Vs the Macan and I was really surprised by the ride, general comfort and handling combination. And there are quite a few out there to do deals on right now.... Definitely gone onto my list as a potential next family car, when we don't need something as big as the Disco eventually.

Either way, happy hunting !
