Hi, I’m about to pull the trigger on a all Black 2011 RS5 and I’m trading in my 2014 Range Rover Vogue (much to my wife’s and others dismay 😁)
Will I regret it I I hope not.
A question I have is the RS5 I’m buying from the garage has no history from 20011 to 2019, no online MOT or anything. Since then it’s had the usual servicing inc a gearbox service. I’ve checked the history on the paid sites and it all comes back clean.
It’s had 1 owner for 8 years (no history) then 3 since (probably found it too thirsty)
The dealer isn’t hiding anything and it truly looks and drives superb .
Need I be considered about anything?
Thanks in advance 👍

I spoke with my local garage mechanic, he was of the opinion if it drives and looks ok then maybe it is and the history got lost with the first owner pre COVID

Is it unicorn spec or £10k cheaper than the next available one?

If the answer is no, then find one with proper history. They're not rare cars

It's the black edition with carbon etc. Has a few extras like memory seats. Black wheels and tinted windows, like a Batmobil 😂

How does the online MOT history get lost?

Check and check again that it's not a recovered stolen

Or an exported car that's been re-imported back to the UK

Both of these would explain the big gap as its not the usual kind of car to be not MOT'd and it's not special enough to be parked up for ages in a climate controlled garage.

There are loads out there I would throw that one back and find one with a documented history.

Thanks for all the information guys (couldn't reply until now due to the 24 hour rule for newbies)
Anyhow, I've spoken with the DVLA & DVSA, both have the same limited info of no MOT between 2014 and 2019....but they can see it's been taxed all its life.
The service history is all from 2019, which is when the first ownership change was recorded. Maybe I want the car too much and and am placing my beliefs in the fact that the service book got lost at this owner change (Audi have no online history due to their records starting for cars registered after 2013) and that the DVLA screwed the MOT info when the first change of keeper was input.
Fyi it's being sold for £16k, I've done 2 different (paid) vehicle checks and all comes back fine - not stolen, written off or import/exported.

I suggest that the chancer who bought it off the owner who used to take it to Audi just never MOT'd or taxed it. There's no way they can "loose" digital mots, they track the VIN not the registration so even with all the owners and "BO55" plates it's almost certainly had, you should still be able to see it.

Buy it anyway, if you're looking at an RS5, you've probably got an image to worry about keeping up.

Appreciate your views but you are wrong on several issues, the main being the 'image' I want to uphold. I just liked the car and would appreciate any niche information I'm unaware of.

Given all the details and the replies thus far I’m just going to say good luck and you are a braver man than I.
If it were just the service book missing then maybe if as you say it drives well and looks good and there is a warranty available then perhaps worth a think but with all the other details such as mot not available on line and “ mistakes “ etc I’m sure there are other examples available.
£16k is still a lot of money to end up with an issue.

Thanks for your time to reply, it's definitely a 'thinker' I'm sure though that a genuine car dealer (if they exist lol) wouldn't want the hassle if the car turned out with a dodgy past?
