Hi all,

We’re looking for another car, basic info -

- Budget £14,000 - £16,000
- Must be able to fit 3 car seats in (my kids are 7, 5 & 1). This can either be a 7 seater or a large 5 seater with enough room on the rear bench for all 3 car seats across (safely)
- Hoping to avoid an MPV
- 35mpg minimum, ideally more
- The car will do somewhere between 8,000 and 12,000 miles per year, mainly on A roads and motorways with the occasional short trip

During my search so far, I’ve mainly been searching for 7 seaters as it’s a bit of a minefield trying to work out of car seats will fit in a 5 seater, I’m hoping this post will bring up some more cars to consider!

Currently I’m looking at -

Peugeot 5008
Hyundai Santa Fe

Neither of which are hugely appealing to me, hence the post!

Any help with other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Have you looked into a multimac car seat, They can accommodate 3 children across a normal 3 seat rear bench (this includes rear facing).
If not new, can be had for £1000-1500 on facebook/ebay market place.

This open up alot of car choices without having to compromise

No affiliation, but something like this:

Not a fun car per se but I never drive particularly fast when family on board anyway but you will get more bang for buck with a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso than the 5008 and VW Touran. I paid £15k for a Flair spec 67 plate around 18 months ago.

Peugeot 5008 is an excellent family car - especially in GT or GT Line Premium spec. Is it appealing to anyone who frequents PH? No. Is it a great family car? Definitely. We had 3 big bulky Cybex Solution child seats across the middle row with the outer seats pushed back and middle seat slightly forward

The C5 Aircross and Grand Picasso I believe share the same platform, however to me both are less appealing than the Pug!

IMO the S Max is still the best MPV which doesn't drive like an MPV you can buy.

They do cost more than other MPVs but you will get that back when you come to sell/PX in the future.

Loads to choose from.
Cheap to run, £180 tax, 45mpg+

I bought a Citroen C5 Aircross for this exact reason. One of the few cars in its class size that accommodates 3 car seats in the rear. A 69 plate 1.6 petrol Flair Plus with 18k miles set me back £15k. The Pug 5008 is a bigger car which I (my wife) found less appealing for our normal family duties navigating tight parking spaces and multistory car parks etc.

The 5008 & Santa Fe/Sorento won't drive any better than an MPV & will be a bit more cramped space wise:

Auto or Manual?
Skoda Kodiaq? Maybe not the auto as they can have issues (another pistonheads post recently on that).
I've a 5008 1.6thp auto, all the 1.2 petrol have belt in oil so need to be careful and the 1.6 petrol can have timing chain related issues.
Sounds like a diesel might suit your needs though. They have 3 isofix in middle row if you really need it but your 7 year old probably wont need a car seat for much longer. Good for trips away with large boot and 2 rear seats come out if you need even more space.
Overall it's a good car but If you are not keen on them though for whatever reason don't get one, no point having a car for years you don't particularly like.

The Skoda Kodiaq doesn't have 3 individual rear seats. This is generally the critical part for having 2 child seats plus adult or 3 child seats across the row. It is doable in other cars if they are large enough but finding the right combination of seats in this scenario is much harder. With 3 individual seats it is as close to a guarantee that almost any combination of child seats will fit.

I've has 2 5008's, both in GT trim and loved them, 3 kids accross the back with indidual seats, would have another no problem, got a T6 transporter as was doing a bit of camping too and the room is obviously helpful.

Had both 1.2,3 pot petrol (not good MPG when 5 up and loaded on the motorway) but surprisingly nippy for the size of car, had the diesel 1.6 (very first of the recent shape, now is a 1.5) which was good, both were autos.

This is what we went with, can choose anything then. Great product... I get buyer's remorse with everything, but not this smile
