Family Car (Company) Hyundai Ioniq 5 or 1 year old Jag Ipace
Discussion
Looking to get a family car through the company, hence needs to be an EV.
Have narrowed it down to a Hyundai Inoiq 5 77kw AWD Ultimate spec for £45k after discount with 5 year warrwanty.
Or more of a wild card a Year old 23 Plate Ipace SE for £45K.
About £500 a year company car tax for the Hyudaid and £750 a year for the jag by the looks of it.
The Ioniq 5 is top spec and is a nice car although not all that much fun to drive really.
We have had one on test for a couple of days and a couple of things annoy a bit, shallow boot, cant find the recessed door handles in the dark, and the seats are not all that comfy, also no wireless carplay.
Have not yet tried a Jag but my own car is an F Pace SVR so I do like a jag...
The Ipace is quite an old platform now...
Does anyone have any real world experience of either?
And will the Jag be unreliable and outdated?

Ioniq 5 is a significantly better EV than an iPace. When I say that I mean the whole charging experience. It is a next gen product in comparison. IPace prob has a nicer interior, but for me that's about it. Ride is very good on the Ioniq but I haven't tried the air suspension available on an iPace.
We had an Ioniq 5 for 6 months. You can retrofit wireless CarPlay with a simple (fairly cheap) dongle - worked fine for us in the time we had it. We appreciated the fairly decent public fast charging speeds in it - and took it to France & Belgium a couple of times. We did 12k in 6 months.
I'd recommend one. A friend has an I-Pace, and I like that too, but preferred the Ioniq 5.

The Ioniq will be the better car for absolutely everything except for driving experience.
I loved the I-Pace but the range and charging speed doesn’t work for my driving profile, however it’s been my favourite EV to drive and I’d love to have one as a spare car when the prices drop even further.
Buying via the company has significant benefits for buying brand new, however if that’s not the motivator then I’d be looking at a 2022 HSE approved used car for £10k under your budget, like this one:

Thanks, I have had an Ioniq on Test for about three days.
It’s an Ultimate Spec 2WD model with the 77KW battery.
Grown to like it but there are a few annoyances.
First and foremost is it’s really hard to find the door handles in the dark! And I don’t like the mechanism.
How you can balls up door handles is beyond me.
There is no light in or on the handle, and it does not pop out, then when you have something in your other hand it is a fiddle to push the other end of the handle to pop it out.
I realise they do it for less drag, but it’s very annoying that to get pop out keyless handles you need to go for the Namsan spec which means having those stupid electronic door mirrors that I just don’t want or need.
Also I find that when I am in my preferred seating position the touch screen is quite a stretch away and not easy to operate.
And the boot is quite shallow.
Everything else I like. Would go for the 4WD version, have driven a Ioniq 6 with this setup before.
Going to look at iPace’s tomorrow, there are 700 or so on Autotrader!
I see what you mean, a 23 plate high spec HSE car for 35k ish looks great value.
Almost all charging will be done at home. I note that the later F paces have slightly higher charging rates than the first ones?

Yeah if you don't expect to need to charge on public chargers or do long trips, then that will tip the balance in favour of the iPace. In my Ioniq 5, I have really done the 10-80% in like 13 minutes when it was 25C+ in France. Peak speeds approaching 240kw.
Ditto, we do a regular long journey and see 200kw+ charging. Time for a cup of tea and a comfort break then back on the road again.mikeyb1987 said:
It's not clear in your OP, but if it is your own limited company and you're comparing new EV vs used EV, the (used - eg: you're not the first private owner) iPace won't qualify for the 100% First Year Allowance. This may or may not sway you towards a new EV.
Thanks, yes you are right, although there seem to be some used cars that are at least "VAT Qualifying" where I think we could get the VAT back. With the ipace being such good value used I'm less worried about the first year allowance.
All I can say is don't drive an Ipace if you have an Ioniq 5, tested one today, my wife and I agreed it's just so much nicer to drive, so sit in, ride quality, road noise, perceived quality, boot space etc etc
We would have been happy with an Ioniq save for the niggles listed prior but now lust after an Ipace.
35k for a 22 plate with 15K miles and good spec, hard to turn down....

they are 20-22k at auction, old EV tech, not especially efficient, so buy with eyes wide openWith the ipace being such good value used I'm less worried about the first year allowance.

Of course, I can see the allure. I went on a Jag experience day many moons ago at Knockhill. It was focused on the iPace, which proved an extremely fun car to drive. I can't compare it to other electric cars, as I haven't driven others. But even on track the iPace felt 'fun'. Interior was lovely too. If I was in the market for an EV, particularly used, I think an iPace (or BMW i4) would be where I'd spend my money. With the ipace being such good value used I'm less worried about the first year allowance.

As you've found out the IPace is a nicer car overall BUT be careful on what car you buy as there was an OTA update that affected around 7000 cars, once this was done some developed a Traction Battery fault this means a visit to the main dealer & it's not a quick fix, I know of three clients that haven't seen there cars for around three months, I will say all have received courtesy cars so do your research.
Also if you don't like Ioniq why take a look at it's cousin the EV6:
