Hi,

My partner is currently looking for a new car. She is convinced she wants an SUV of some sort, and it has to be electric (we have a charger for my car and can make use of the cheap overnight tariff).

After a bit of searching we have landed on a Peugeot 2008 as the £17.5k budget gets you:
Relatively new car (circa 2021)
Good trim level
Lots of kit
“Looks a bit like a Range Rover” rotate
200+ mile range

We’re going to have a look at a couple tomorrow but I wanted to put a post out to see if I was missing anything.

Is there an alternative we’re overlooking?
Have any of you got / had one and do you have any feedback?

Thanks

You may know this, but it won't do 200 motorway miles at 70mph, more like 120-130 I guess. At least, I have an e-C4 on the same platform and that's been my experience.

It's worth noting a Kia Niro has a significantly longer real range... if that's important to you.

If not, then no real reason not to get the Pug I think.

The Pug 2008 only has a 46kWh battery and isn't particularly efficient. Real world range is typically very short of 200 miles.

The Kia e-Niro has a 64kWh battery, and yes the first-generation isn't very handsome! Plenty of examples in budget but be aware some the cheapest are smaller battery models.

Also the Kona is a similar car in a slightly smaller battery.

Otherwise, MG ZS can be had for that money, or Kia Soul.

Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn’t realised the range drop off was so large!

I have an electric Kona currently, and I don’t notice too much of a significant drop when doing motorway runs so hadn’t considered this.

I agree the E-Niro is a great shout, but it doesn’t pass the “look” test for her with the old style front bumper. I’ll hunt around and see if I can find an example with a colour that helps.

The aforementioned Soul is a bit more stylish, and in budget with the 64 kWh battery, maybe that would pass the look test? A bit smaller than the Niro tho, barely bigger than a Kona.

The thing is the Korean EVs have a nearly 50% bigger battery (64 vs 46 kWh useable) and are more efficient on the motorway, so it's a double whammy on real world range. Stellantis' lack of EV experience really shows. I really like my Citroen, but then it's not my only car and I don't need to do over 100 miles very often, and I don't mind stopping to charge when I do.

There are a couple of iPace available that budget, I've been very pleased with ours.
