Hi everyone,

I'm finding our current daily pretty uncomfortable to drive any serious distance and the rear leg room isn't the best for two growing kids. Is there any websites out there that give you the an idea on rear legroom? Everyone seems to be more interested in boot space.

Just trying to gauge an idea of potential cars before looking seriously.

The RIDC website is pretty good for this.

Or just buy a Skoda Superb.

You could hold a party in the rear leg room in the Superb

I've heard that about the Superb being massive but I have an itch for something a bit silly whilst we still can. C/E class AMG or S6 etc.

3.6 V6 and 6.3 seconds to 60 silly enough?

Less characterful 4 pot but 5.6 to 60mph… 280bhp

If you squint hard enough it will become an Audi.

Thanks, that website is really handy. Quite the selection of cars they've tested. Wonder how many went for the V10 R8 for wheel chair space biggrin

Coming from a Mk3 ST estate it just dosn't do much for me (sorry). It's a shame they didn't drop the Audi S4 lump into it.

Oooh… there’s an idea, V8 Skoda. Actually on second thoughts, wonder if the V10 would fit scratchchin
There’s probably someone on here who’s crazy enough to do this

You'll find that transverse engined cars like the Superb generally have more interior space compared to proper cars of similar external dimensions.

For example, I went from a Vauxhall Vectra estate to a Mercedes E-Class saloon, which despite being about the same length on the outside had noticeably less legroom.

You'll find the interior of a C-Class broadly comparable to the Focus you currently drive.

I'd say an E.class /5 series saloon has perfectly adequate rear seat space for most adults to ride in. I can get my ample 6'2" frame into the back of an S-Class or Lexus LS and feel very comfortable for very long drives, however if you go for such a barge with backseat fanciness packages you lose a lot of boot space. For example, my LS460 has a similar boot volume to a Focus hatchback.

The S4 has a longitudinal mounted engine, whereas the Superb is transverse - whilst transverse V8s are a thing I doubt the Audi subframe would go into the Superb shell easily, and I doubt the front wheels would be in the right place if it did.

C-Class is pretty small in the back really. E would be better for something spacious I think. There have been a range of nice V8s in AMG E-Classes over the years - the 5.4 S/C, the 6.2 N/A, the 5.5 TT and the 4.0 TT - all of them pretty epic.

As someone who’s owned a 3.6 V6 Passat R36 and a 4.2 V8 Audi A6, I’d go for the V6 engine any day of the week. It sounded sooooo good. Quite economical, too. I loved that car. Can’t remember why I sold it…

VW Arteon R.

I believe (I may be wrong) the Arteon uses the same floorpan as the Superb (ie slightly longer than the Passat)

So you get the rear legroom and the sporty engine.

Only issue is they have quite a low roofline compared to a standard saloon.
