Consolidating 3 classics into 1
Discussion
I would like to consolidate my 3 classic / special cars into 1 in the New Year. A house move and a new family car requirement means it is no longer practical or feasible to own the 3.
My 3 cars are:
- an E-Type (Series II, 2+2)
- a Fiat 500 R (1975)
- a 911 Turbo (996 generation)
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have what I believe is a fun car for ever occasion. However, I am finding it tricky to find 1 car that might give me a litle bit of everything - and make good use of my single garage space.
My short list of "wants" for the unicorn are:
- 4 Seats
- Coupe
- 6 cylinders +
- Manual
- ULEZ/Road Tax free (so pre-1983)
- Special to look at and drive
- No more than £75k
- A little esoteric
- Something one of my kids might be proud to inherit one day (provding ICE are still permitted on the road)
I would love to hear people's suggestions - even if you think I should retain one of my existing cars.
TY

You have just described a Citroen SM. My 3 cars are:
- an E-Type (Series II, 2+2)
- a Fiat 500 R (1975)
- a 911 Turbo (996 generation)

The answer to this is a Ferrari 308 GT4.
Here's a lovely one; there are a few around at the moment

I’d keep the E-type, but alternatively

I’d keep the E type too.
The best 70’s/early 80’s manual interesting stuff may be more than 75k for a nice one. Example being a 3.0 CSL or an Aston V8.
Could get a nice early manual Porsche 928 I guess. I like the Citroen SM one too. Or an Alfa Montreal.
More than an E type though?

A few years off the 1983 tax MOT exemption, but how about a decent M6 or M5

What a great selection- I’d fear it would remain as three car garage though. All Three https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1654111

These are some incredible suggestions.
Believe it or not, I’m siding towards parting with the E-Type and possibly the Fiat and holding onto the Porsche.
The 911 is so plug and play - always starts, totally epic on the 1 or 2 days a year I get it over to Wales, and is still
a very attractive car in my opinion.
That being said, the likes of a 308 GT4, 3.0 CSi or even an Interceptor or SM is also very appealing - but I fear going to come with the bug bears of E-type ownership.
Ironically, I live in town so the keys I most frequently pick up are those to the little Fiat as it does short journeys very well but also made it to the Scramble last Spring!
Thank you all so much. It’s a great problem to have as you say.
