Been perusing Autotrader and nothing tickles my fancy.

Thinking about it, I want something small, hatchback or estate and ideally 4 wheel drive. Lightbulb moment: and Impreza Wagon.

But given that they're all old and knackered or messed around with, what would be the modern day equivalent?

Golf R estate or one of the other VAG products with similar underpinnings.

As above VW group, Golf R/ Leon Cupra/ Octavia VRS all available in 4WD versions.

If you have bigger budget and want more cylinders then BMW335i or 340i XDrive/ Mercedes C43/ Audi S4 are all available as wagons.

Suzuki S-Cross Boosterjet.

Off-brand Japanese marque, lightweight, 4wd, turbo, manual, cheap.

Can be tuned to 170-180bhp which doesn't sound much but power to weight is reasonable.

Plenty of tuning parts shared with the Swift Sport.

You can probably buy lowering springs if you want to slam it down.

Probably closer to the Impreza in character than a more refined Leon Estate for example.

Of course, there is still the Levorg from Subaru which is basically an Impreza estate, 1.6 turbo engine has decent power, but CVT gearbox is unappealng.

I had one at one point.

Currently have a V60 T6 AWD - similar size and performance.... albeit Auto. Works well enough in manual mode though for better shift response.

Quite a few have been imported due to rarity here and the VED is half the UK cars.

That Suzuki is a great suggestion. I didn't even know that it existed.

Or how about a Subaru Levorg? probably as close as you can get to the Impreza Wagon.Hyundai Kona GT might fit the bill too, 170bhp, awd and practical.
