What goes through a sellers mind, dodgy tyres
Discussion
Am I over thinking it all?
I am always browsing cars for sale and came across this one with worn tyres.
It has three different makes of tyres but three of the four are on the limit.
The seller proudly states it can be sold with a new MOT if it is wanted, you just know it will probably fail and will end up getting fitted with some cheapo make to get it through the test.
Third day off work and bored already.

A few years ago I bought a Berlingo off eBay from a chap who turned out to be a serving police officer - he lived in Liverpool and served in Manchester (or the other way round).
He kindly delivered the car to me at work in Flint and on inspection all four tyres were the wrong size, below the wear limit (two with cords showing).
The mind boggles.

Just why have they included pictures of the tyres when they are clearly worn out. Aren't you supposed to take pictures of positives that will help sell the car. Odd.
That they must think the tyres are good is the most concerning part.Having said that, it's quite nnoying that we've just changed wife's car for an 18mth old one with hardly worn Michelin Primacy tyres - annoying as I'd really like to fit CrossClimates but the current tyres are too good to chuck away.
As a buyer, I would have no issue with tyres that have low but legal tread, as long as the price reflected that. It is asking for a knock-down on the price though. It would be sensible for a seller to have about 4 mm of tread or thereabouts - you can’t expect the seller to put new tyres on, but to run the tyres down to the legal limit sends a poor message. Whether selling a house or a car the essentials have to be right. So a good roof for a house, and decent tyres for a car.
Most people do not care as long as there's decent tread left.
Most people will replace one tyre at a time with whatever is cheapest and round.
I've bought main dealer cars with 4 different tyres and been looked at funny when I queried it. Still bought it though as it was cracking value and I lived to tell the tale until I replaced them when low.
Most people treat cars as white goods and maintain them as they would a washing machine.

So do I, is that wrong? Unless the tyre the other side is approaching the limit I’m not going to waste a perfectly good tyre. Appreciating on some cars that’s a little more tricky..
Not wrong but increases potential for things going wrong in adverse conditions with widely varying tyre performance on each corner.W201_190e said:

On anything I’ve bought to sell on, if the tyres are in anyway borderline or a mot advisory they are replaced with new tyres.
However if it’s a cheap runabout it will get budget tyres fitted, anything £4k and above will have midrange tyres fitted. I don’t really deal with anything over £7k.
As much as I’d love to fit premium tyres, unfortunately many buyers just don’t care as long as the tyres are good they are happy. The extra cost of premium tyres would be wasted.
